While driving my car it shut down on its own, and when I tried restarting it I got nothing. Everything on the car works such as windows, air suspension, radio, lights etc. I checked all the engine compartment fuses and relays all were good. I then replaced the following.
1. Ignition module
2. Safety neutral switch
3. Ignition switch
4. Anti-theft module
The reason I changed the anti-theft was due to when I turn the ignition to start the theft light continued flashing, but with the switch in run it goes out. I tried grounding the Dark Grn and Purple factory disarm but it did not shut it down. I’m thinking if its shut down it won’t start anyway because it’s between the start interrupt relay and the starter solenoid. Also I found that if I only connect the positive cable and attach the tester directly to battery ground all the fuses in the engine fuse distribution box have voltage.

However when I attach the chassis ground I have two fuses that suddenly have no voltage.

1. Ignition coil fuse (20 amps) controls – fuel pump relay – ignition coils – radio noise capacitors – variable load control module.

2. Speed control fuse (10 amps) controls – speed control amplifier.

I know there are two more possible causes the PCM and VCRM modules, but due the cost I want to try and get some feedback if anyone else has had this problem or have knowledge as to what you would suggest as to diagnosis. Trying to do this on my own just don’t have a lot of extra money to put in shop. So if anyone is familiar with this problem or have any suggestions please help me out. Thanking you in advance.

When you say its got "nothing", do you mean cranking but not firing or nothing at all??

what year car do you have?
does the fuel pump prime when you turn the key?
do you have fuel pressure?
do you have spark?
does the car crank and not start?
or not crank at all?

Changed the anti-theft??? Throw that frick'n thing in the trunk and forget about it! That cured a lot of my problems!

really? i do not hear about very many 1st gen anti theft problems at all. i'm not gonna say they do not happen, but they seem very rare.

Then this must be one of the rare one's then....Mine went nut's when it went bad. Alarm going off, car wouldn't start, light's would flash, horn would honk. Took it to the dealer, that's how hard up I was (they couldn't figure it out either). Threw it in the trunk 10 years ago (where it still sit's) and haven't had a problem since. Put it back in last summer just so I could give it another try and after fixing the dreaded cowl leak we all know about (for the 2nd time)....and it still wouldn't work and....it still sit's in the trunk where it will stay! Is it a bad alarm module? Or just a bad design? We'll never know but it sit's in the trunk and the car runs perfect!

Disconnecting the anti-theft does nothing, accoording to the schematic in the chilton book the anti-theft must work to complete the circuit that allows the starter interrupt relay to send voltage to the starter solenoid. the relay is good and the starter solenoid is good. I can hear the fuel pump energize but something is telling the system not to start. The car was driving when it shut down so its got to be something that is suppose to be hot at all times.

yeah guys it's a 95 and when I turn ignition key there is a no crank no start situation.

I'm having the same issue intermittently with my '97 LSC. It hasn't done it in a while but there for a couple of weeks it would not crank or start but everything else worked fine. Lights, radio, windows, everything but the cranker:) So i jiggled the key around in the lock cylinder and it's been fine since. So my guess in the lock cylinder was loose or something wasn't connecting. But nock on wood I haven't had the issue in a long time. But now that I've talked about it, it will be my luck it won't start the next time I get in it:rolleyes:

I would test ign harness. To test ign harness at switch get a multi meter or test light.
Yellow and brown w/ orange trace wires 12v battery
Red w/ light green trace and brown wires 12v with ign on and during cranke
Red w/ light blue 12v starter
Two gray w/yellow and black w/green 12v with ign on off during crank.

If all test good then issue could be at starter

maybe ignition wiring.
also starter or start solenoid.
when you turn the key to crank, does the radio and stuff shut off until you release the key back to run?

I don't know guys got all the necessary voltages at the start switch in fact I replaced it with a new one thinking maybe the slide was worn. everything works with key in and I can hear the fuel pump energize. What ever it is it went out while driving, I'm thinking that its some wire thats hot at all times. But it doesn't explain why the anti-theft continues to flash while key in start position and I did replace the anti-theft. I just can't figure where the gremlin is I know it's staring in the face.

Can you place the key in On and jump the starter?

Have you checked to make sure its all the way in Park
Have you tried to start it in Neutral?

What happened when you applied direct power to the starter solenoid?

Did it at least make a spark or anything? Can you get a test light to the positive solenoid wire?
If you have the key on, and the solenoid wire is Hot, then its your starter

Tap the starter with a small hammer and see if that'll free it up if it does, that's your warning that its soon to be dead

Hey guy's does anyone have or know where I can find a pinout diagram for VCRM on a 1995 MK Viii p/n F4LF-12B577-AA. Think I may be able to find my problem. Thanks in advance.

Since my last post these items have been replaced: Ignition switch, Safety neutral switch, Ignition module, Anti theft module, VCRM “ variable control relay module, Starter and solenoid”. Still no start as I stated originally the car just stopped while driving never had a starting problem before that so all I replaced eliminates start system problem there has to be either a fuse link or wire that is normally hot in the start and run process. Does anyone have an idea or had this problem. Don’t know where else to look.
