Alrighty then after having the car for less than a year and in that time I've replaced teh transmission, had all the body work done, new flowmasters, shocks and a complete paint job with clear coat done at the local FLM dealer(ford "Baltic" or purple as I call it) replaced carpeting, recovered the seats and spent 2K on stereo and alarm with remote start. The car looks like it just came off the assembly line. Now, I've been informed the engine is going to need replacing soon. The advice I need is should I stick with stock or should I upgrade to more horsepower? what is the largest that could fit in the bay? A friend of my brother races (non-pro) both ford and chevy cars and he builds his own engines.(from factory parts I assume), and he thinks he can put a 500HP(?) mustang engine and do the modifications to the car for that much increase in power if I want. I'm assuming he means tranny and suspension and whatever to plop the engine in. He assures me he'll do just for the fun of it and not charge for labor,I just have to pay for the engine, I think it's about 5K but that's doable. Should I or shouldn't I? All in all, since I've had the car I've already pumped close to 10K into it. So the engine issue isn't a big deal. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks
Jamie

Might as wll go hi-po. You've already dropped quite a bit into it. And considering it now looks like it's brand new, stick to it.

If you can save your block, do so. Have it machined .020 over and top it off with 03 Cobra heads with stage I cams and a ported 01 Cobra intake. Forged Manley pistons and rods for a tough bottom end. If you're on a budget, save your old crank and turn it .010; if not, buy a new one or go forged.

That setup should be good for about 405hp. 500 hp would be attainable if you went with a supercharger. You could fit a 5.4 under there with some work, and if he's willing to do it, gfo for it. It's a tight fit, but badass :gr_devil:

btw how much did ur paint cost?

Stripped to the bare metal, dents and dings removed, paint, clear coat, and labor costs was about $3200.

I would deff stay with the the 4.6, It has a great block and awesome heads throw some forged internals and a pro charger at it and you will be looking at 500 RWHP

by the way you got any shots of the interior and exterior?

Not at the moment. About 2 weeks ago I made the mistake of assuming the factory anti-theft/alarm system worked. I pushed the button lights went on and figured it was okay. Next day I found the drivers door open about 2 inches and my credentials, badge, extra uniform shirt, stereo and a carry case of about 100 CD's gone along with 2 $40 scratch tickets, my digital camera and a King Size Nestle crunch bar I put in the center console before going in for the night. I was really upset about the Nestle bar and all my Judas Priest CDs more than anything else (Heartless bastard). But, my factory anti-theft device light was still glowing a bright, happy green. That's when I had the new stereo and alarms installed.
When I pick up a cheap 4x4 for the winter and my friend starts the work, he wants me to leave it with him while he takes his time working on it, (save storage fees) I'll try to get some progress pictures. Once I get more ideas and suggestions from you guys. I DKS about engines and cars anymore.

Hey Lally? Whats a 5.4? ( for the mechanically illiterate). I'll assume it's bigger than a 302? What about a 460? Do they come EFI? That would be so sick if it could be done. I miss my old cougars 460.
:wrench :steering :steering
I could have a rice frying, asphalt melting, street beast with that. All the kids around here with ricers would tremble in FEAR when they hear and see me pull up next to them :gr_devil: .:headbang: :headbang: :gr_devil:

Jamie,

The 5.4 is a taller deck version of the 4.6 Modular; much like the 351W is a taller deck 302. The 5.4L Modular is 330 cubes as opposed to our 281. Al Pappito (Boss330 on Corral) is the frontrunner for 5.4L DOHC swaps into Stangs and T-Birds. They're making some serious power and running some serious track times (9's &10's!) It's a fairly involved swap, but I think it would be badass to see some more cubes under the hoods of the Mark VIII...
