On my way to the store as I pulled into the parking lot, I noticed that my car had a high RPM when I wasnt touching the gas or anything. I had never felt this before and I was hoping it was just a fluke and when I pulled into the parking spot it would go back to normal but when I put it into park and sitting in the parking spot it was idling higher than usual. My tachometer does not work so I dont know specific numbers. I went inside came back out and started it up and same thing. As soon as I put it into drive I felt the same thing without even touching the gas that it was idling high. I didnt notice any transmission problems until I got onto the major road and it wasnt shifting until late but eventually it would go with a little bit of a kick. A little farther down the road the car wouldnt shift at all, and I was stuck in first gear the rest of the way. Can anyone help me out and give me some ideas on what it is?

Ideas.

1. Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) $40 to $50

2. Idle Air Control (IAC) $40 to $50

3. Manual Lever Position Sensor (MLPS) $40 to $50

4. The computer itself - $40 to $100, depending who and where you get it from, if needed.

5. Take it and have the codes read, even if no CEL light is coming on. You didn't mention if it was or not.

1st gen or 2nd gen? and mileage?
2nd gen you can tap on the iac with a hammer and see if anything changes.

oh. not fun to work on. i pulled mine apart and replaced everything in one go to be done with it.

UltimateSVT had this no shift problem. it was so bad his car wouldn't shift out of first as well.
i think his was tps? he had so many threads i couldn't keep track.

There's been like a string of these lately. It's the weather maybe

No, theres no light coming on. Ill take it and have the codes read. Thanks

Took it in to a repair shop they think its the throttle position sensor. Been trying to locate it for a while to replace it but having trouble finding it. Can anyone tell me where it is located?

the back of the throttle body. the throttle body bolts to the back of the intake.
remove the wiper cowl and you can pretty easily remove the throttle body and then tps.

its because they are all first gen heaps.

Do the Gen 2 heaps TPS and IAC's not ever go bad or something? I prefer mine to be hidden out of sight. Not like it has to be changed on a yearly basis. It's been almost 2 years since I bought my Gen 1 heap from you and haven't had one problem with my TPS or IAC.

Because you bought it from him. Normal people don't perform or know anything about cars. THe idiot who wanted to race his gt eclipse against my old 93 doesn't know what a master cylinder is. I'm pretty sure wh just knOws his car is fast. Maybe looked the hp up Wikipedia. I know little In comparison to people here but I still screw with him and ask him stupid :q:q:q:q like where coils are and such. And he's worse at stick than me. Always revving that damn engine like an idiot.

He wont man up to that cobra though. Bitches know better

lol, I just like messin with Jamie. He's always bashing our Gen 1's but ask him how many he has owned and driven.

BTW Jacksun, If I went for some of those wheels you have, what am I looking at $$ wise? Mine and yours are the same color and I love those wheels. I was just wondering a round about figure because by Feb, I'll be buying some. What are the name of them so I'll know what to ask for?

Anyway, OP.... Let us know if the TPS fixed it. If I were you, I would go ahead and change the IAC and the TPS at the same time and be done with it. The TPS is really simple to do. Well, I have done a few and I have it under the 30 min range and with the TB off, the IAC isn't really that bad. Some people clean them but I would not. That's just a cheap fix and can last a week or maybe 2 years. You never know.
