I am pretty interested in buying a newer ls. A friend of mine had one and I loved it. However it seems like they are always in the shop for something, whether it be the transmission or autotrac or whatever. Basically they don't sound dependable, but that is mostly for the 00-03. I can never find much info on the 04's or 05's. How dependable are they? Do they have the transmission problems or anyother common problems that keeps them in the shop?By the way I am talking about the V8 and I am looking for a black lse. Thanks for any help.

I have an 04 LS. We now have a little over 40K miles on it now. The only issue/repair has been the ash tray. (It popped out on its own one day and wouldn't go back in.) We also had the recall to add fluid to the transmission.

Dependability depends in large part on how the car is cared for. I have an 03 and its been a great car. No unforeseen problems at all, but I'm fairly rigorous about service, not beating on the vehicle, etc. The issues I've had were all known and were the subject of technical service bulletins (TSBs).

If you're buying a newer used LS, keep in mind that you get the balance of the factory warranty, so problems you may encounter will be covered.

Why not get a NEW LS instead of a used one? And don't say money is an issue because the leftover 05 and new 06 cars are very good deals.

I really like the car, it just seemed like I heard about them being in the shop all the time. I have checked out the new ones, but with options I want I don't feel like paying that much right now. Even at invoice. I also have 95 impala ss which I am still paying off and never drive, so I'll just find a nice used one. So there hasn't been any problems with transmission or anything else on the 04 and up models.

Other than some software reprogramming and perhaps a valve body, the transmissions are very good -- regardless of year. They're not in the shop all the time. While some owners have had problems, they were usually easily fixable. If you're buying a used one, get a carfax report first

OK, now let me get this straight. You have a 95 Impaler SS which you never drive and owe money on. Why do you want another car (and presumably another car payment)? Are you going to sell the Impaler?

I guess theres just alot of people who try to hate on the ls or wanna make it sound bad since they weren't happy with it. You'll make it sound good, so I'm gonna take your word and make my next purchase an ls. Now, I just gotta find one I like.
The impala is a collectors car with only 35000 on it. It's almost paid off, but I probably will sell it since it doesn't make sense to have two payments(impala=$375 a month). I'll just hold on to my 85 chevy caprice(my first car) that still runs strong that I drive on nasty days and stuff till it dies as my back up.
Thanks for the help guys. Now if you have any info where to get a newer black ls preferrably lse, that be great.
