You need to be able to see the engine while sitting in the driver's seat, so pop the hood and raise it all the way open.

Hold your foot on the brake pedal, and shift into reverse. While continuing to hold the brake pedal with 1 foot, use your other foot to push the throttle, gradually raising the engine RPM toward 3000 rpm. If you see the engine lift up more than an inch on the passenger side, the mount on the passenger side needs to be replaced.

You can do the same with the transmission in Drive to check the driver's side mount.

If the problem is one of the mounts, the "clunk" you hear is the engine dropping back down after lifting itself up in the air. My first guess is it's the one on the passenger side.

If the motor mount was gone, you would know it, you would feel it, and whenever you got on it, you would see hood vibrate from the CLUNK! when it slaps down. (i see it every day) it doesnt sound like it has to do with the rear itself (pumpkin unit), it realy sounds like a u joint problem to me.

your having problems with your air suspension?

Double check that driveshaft. It may not be as good as you are thinking.

The first driveshaft I got for the Charger had its U-Joint damaged during shipping and I never knew it until I put it in and it sucked.

the weird this is that i bust my hump putting in the rear and driveshaft in, and this whole time i thought it was the rear and now that i changed it it still has the problem.
lincoln's some times you love them sometime you you hate them.

guess what guys i found the problem. 1. i think i need new motor mounts because the motor really moves a lot. 2. and the other problem is driver side cv shahft or axel what ever you call it is shot the joint between the abs sprocket and shaft hops and clunks like crazy.

i have two spare axel from a 98 mark viii with about 80,000 miles on them should i put this in or should i just buy a new one i saw that i can get one from auto zone for like 59.00

after all the problems it was a damn axel

id beware of autozone (im surprised rich hasent stepped in yet) but i would deff swap out the diff again and while you are in there just replace both the axels, why not, havent you been in there too much latelly?
