Hi, I just bought a 02 LS V8, I got it as is from a local Chevy dealer and the drivers side power seat doesn't move or tilt. I was hoping that it was something simple like a fuse or wire, but fuses look good I think. Anyone have any suggestions? With it being both up and down and tilt, I figured that it would be 2 separate motors and maybe some wiring or something easy to fix. But, I am stumped.

Next question is I see some shop manuals on CD for sale. Those a good deal or not?

Thanks, looking forward to getting the Lincoln on the road and driving it. It had couple of other things line tie rod ends, brakes and tires that helped lower the price. I got it for about $4k below Blue book.

Thanks for the help.

:W

There are three fuse boxes; one under the hood passenger side front, second passenger foot well kick panel, and third in the trunk spare tire well. The power seat fuse is in the spare tire well location #21 and is a 20A.

The old shop CD’s you can find on EBay, works for me, you have to set the computer date back to use.

Some repair information and owners manual can be found at the top of the page, TECH ARTICALS next to SEARCH, also helpful.

Forgot to add; passenger seat fuse is in the same fuse box location #28, 20A.

Thanks gc,

I found the fuse in the trunk and swapped fuse 21 with it's neighbor and no luck. any other ideas?

Thanks for the quick response. I am changing the tie rod ends and the front brake pads tonight. New tires later this week or next.

Can't wait to start driving!! :D

02 V8 - not Sport or LSE

I take it from the lack of responses that this isn't a common problem.

I guess that is a good thing.

I’m sure you checked under the seat connectors, depending on seat position could be difficult to see.

That is the extent of my knowledge, good luck.

gc,

Thanks, haven't checked the connections yet, the seats all the way back and down. Works for me, but hard to see under. Next step is to disconnect the battery and take out the seat to check connections.

Thanks again.

I don't remember hearing about this problem previously, so it does appear to be fairly uncommon.

If the fuse is OK, the best bet is the harness/connections. The motors may be shot, but for all of them to go at once is kind of a long shot. It could be something as simple as a damaged/disconnected seat control panel; one of the more common failings is for pins/conductors being pulled loose from the connectors (I've only heard of that being a culprit in the Airbag Warning light, but it's not out of the realm of possibility here).

You want to be careful when working on the seat; there's a seat-mounted airbag in the outboard bolster on the seat back.

SoonerLS,

Thank for the info. I know about the seat mounted airbag, that why I didn't just start willy-nilly grabbing connectors. :)

I plan to disconnect the battery and see if I can unbolt the seat and see what's up.

Right now I working on the front left tie rod and putting in new brake pads. The pads are in and went in easy, all the caliper pins were well greased and everything looks good there.

As I said the seat fits me so, I am going to do that when I get time.

New tires and alignment are next.

I'll post what I find.

No seat joy

Well I pulled my seat out yesterday (after disconnecting the battery) and took a look for lose wires, bad connectors, etc. No luck, I found one connector that looked like it might be lose, but re-connecting it didn't help. No wires that looked like they had gotten worn or anything. Guess I am off to the dealer to have them trouble shoot it. Bet this will be costly!!

Thanks for the help.

Update on seat problem

Well, I had the seat fixed at a dealer. The power seat module under the front seat was blown. The guy that worked on it said the problem was probably the handful of quarters he found on the seat track. He thought this over stressed the motor causing the module to fail. Module was $250 bucks plus labor. I got a break on labor, cause my wife works at the dealership.

Works great and I turned off the easy exit to save the motors and rest of the electronics under the seat. :)

Thanks for the help and information.
