Ok... so my window got stuck yesterday, needed a new regulator.

After I heard a crack, I rolled the window up and down a few times to investigate. The window was shaky and eventually it fell into the crack (not very violently) and wouldn't come up again.

So I took it too the shop, got it back today, and there's gunk all over the window, some of it won't even come out. And there are a couple tears in the tint.

No, I have to admit, I have no freaking idea whats on the other side of the door panel. For all I know there's a gallon of gunk and 20 razor blades that scratched it.

But I'm pretty convince that the damage was made by the people who repaired it, not by the initial incident.

Maybe I'm wrong, but what do you guys think?

New tint. Whomever replaced the regulator wasn't very careful.

Seeing as how you didn't see the window between it falling in the channel and taking it to get repaired, it could've been damaged prior to taking it in. Theres no way to prove anything so just spend the <50 and re-tint it.

As for the gunk, they should've atleast removed it as a common courtesy. Use some window cleaner or if its bad some "Goo Gone".

I don't know. I just don't see how the window slipping into the channel would scratch the tint.

The fact that they didn't even bother to wipe the stuff off the window tells me that they could care less about attention to detail, which really leads me to believe this is their doing.

I called them up to get a feel of where their stance would be when I go in there tomorrow.

And sure enough, the guy I talked to believes that the scratches came when it fell into the channel. He said that the guy working on it told him about it, so he acknowledged that he knew about it.

I asked "When did you find out", and he said "as soon as we took off the panel".

So my arguments will be "You noticed damaged immediately after you removed the panel, yet you failed to let me know, even though we spoke on the phone afterwards?" If anything they should have told me before carrying on. They made no effort to let me know, and that alone should make them liable.

Also, when they pulled up my car to give it back, the AC was on, every other window was rolled up, but the broken driver window was rolled down. They didn't want me to see.

I'll save the big guns for when they're forced to bring the manager over, and I tell him "Sir, your staff didn't even have the common courtesy to wipe this **** off the window, so there's no way you're going to convince me that your staff is incapable of a **** up like this".

Theres Window tracks,speakers/housings, lock actuators and rods in the door so it could've been any of those. I didn't see what happened nor am i familiar w/ ls's door cavities but i bet it was from the fall.

It's common practice akaik for mechanics to leave the drivers side window open anytime the keys are left in the ignition. So it could've been a coincedence.

Just pony up the dough to have it retinted. I bet it was caused when the window fell into the channel.

My window regulator is broken as well, someone put down my window slightly, it went off track and it did scratch the tint.

Yeah, I guess you guys are right. I've calmed down now, so I'm starting to think that maybe it did scratch itself.

I'll call them tomorrow and admit that I could be wrong. But I'm still gonna let them know it was ****ed up that they couldn't even clean up their greasy mess. Who knows, maybe I'll get something out of it.

thats our shop policy, once we pull the car in the window stays down to make sure that the keys dont get locked in the car, the only exception is when the customer is not going to be picking up the car for a while after the job is done and we have to secure the car up behind our bays.

Its not worth getting worked up and bent out of shape for a simple retint job. Granted, they should have cleaned up there mess and mantioned the scratched tint. But with STL heat index being so high the last few days. I am sure that slipped there mind at the time.

also, if the tint was scratched before it got to them, they probably just figured you already knew about it. and as far as the sh!t on the glass, you have to be very careful what you use to clean it off with as most cleaners with break down the glue in on the tint, and what are the chances that they have glass cleaner that is tint safe?
