I acquired an 06 LS about 4-months ago and had it at a local Lincoln dealer last week to have several things checked out and fixed.
From what I could tell from the carfax report plus a telephone call to the leasing dealer, the LS had been on a 3-year lease and was returned August 08. They kept it on their used car lot for awhile and then wholesaled it to a Nissan dealer where I bought it. About a third of the scheduled factory service was at the original Lincoln dealer and I have no idea about the rest.
I bought the car with an extended warrenty and after a few months of time, had a small list of items that I wanted to have checked into. What really kicked me into gear on getting the LS in the shop was when the HVAC went bonkers and was blowing hot air all the time.
Here's the list worked through and the results.
1. A control valve on the hot water line (or in the heater core, not positive on the location) failed and was blasting hot water through the core all the time. The valve was replaced under the extended warrenty.
2. The trunk lock would not work with the key. The lock cylinder was replaced under the extended warrenty.
3. The transmission had clunky upshifts and hard downshifts. The computer disgnostics did not turn up any error codes. A "shifting solinoid" was replaced inside the transmission and the fluid flushed. The dealer said that the shifting soloinoid was a known problem area so it was just replaced on general principal. It's certainly possible that the transmission fluid was just worn out as it was not in very good condition. The extended warrenty covered this work.
4. A couple of weeks before the dealer visit, I had a few instances of the parking brake not disengaging and a Service Parking Brake message popping up in the dash located information window. Diagnostics did not turn up any error codes and the service tech could not reproduce the problem. Since the dealer checkout, the problem has not occured again. No repairs were done.
5. The headliner trim around the third brake light has come loose and dropped maybe 1/2 inch. It was not covered by the warrenty and the dealer wanted $125 to fix it. I am going to dink with this myself some before getting professional work to correct it.
The cost for all this was $1100 to the extended warrenty and $100 deductable to myself.
The LS is a complete blast to drive and am very pleased with it. Don't want this to come across as a knock on anything at all. These things are par for the course for car ownership and probably reflect more on prior preventative maintenance and such.
