Hey guys nick here just bought a 2000 lincoln ls as my new daily drivver i bought it cheap knowing it need a little work such as right side lower ball joint rear bumper has a crack he gave me a new one not painted tho cars tan with tan interior real good shape over All he. Did the valve cover gaskets befor sold and new plugs ... Its the 3.9 v8 with 93k bought it for 1650$ .... Now the problem im running into is a check engine light it was trowing two codes one was cylinder two misfire and the other was low cat efficency bank one ... I have now fixed the cylinder two mifire with the typical bad coil pack Then cleaerd the code drove 30+ miles light came back on and got it read and got the p0420 code not sure what is excatally wrong but have an idea..Hoping i only have to replace o2 senors or even just space them out just to get the car inspected cause im a week over the typical 7 days after reg .. So i was wonder has any one had this code or similar prob ... I have a general idea on how to just get it to pass just space out the plugs for the time being ... If it is the cat it self .. Kinda confused input would be very greatly appricTed thankss

Yes, you most likely either have failed sensors or a bad cat... search around but i believe theres a way to swap around the sensors to see if one's faulting... or the original over drove around with bad COP's long enough that he's ruined the CATs, which will need to be replaced.

If the cats are bad, you can replace O2 sensors all day long. They will continue to tell you that the cat is bad.

Previous owner waited too long on replacing coils and sent a bunch of raw fuel through the exhaust.

I too am worried about my cats being bad. From the sounds of it, what Pektel says may be your problem. I don't think they're cheap but then again replacing all of your sensors will probably cost $200 plus. Just did another this weekend, AutoZone one took a :q:q:q:q after only 2 months or so of use. Went with OEM part this time to eliminate that possible problem.

On a side note, not to stray from the problem at hand. is it safe to unplug the injector for the cylinder that is misfiring? No spark, no fuel, no ruined cat right?

Can i hollow out the cat and space the o2 sensor insted of the 309$ a new cat costs

I also heard to check if the cat is bad is to hold it at 3k rpm in park for a min or 2 and get out and check if the cat or cats r red hot then uk the cats cloged

Yea just gotta pass saftey and have no check engine on and im good they dont do any thing woth the exhaust

Should be, but better yet keep some spare coils and plugs for such emergencies.
