I have a 95 mark with 58,000 miles w/ k&n, custom dual exhaust and a superchips plug-in obd-I chip. I like the performance the chip gave me. I've been debating whether or not to get nitrous (75-100 shot). If I were to get a high flow fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator and dynotune would nitrous be safe while running the superchip? I just spent 250 on it but I heard chips lean out the fuel mixture.

if you tuned the car with the nitrous, wouldn't that defeat the purpose of the chip? I would say get rid of the chip or get a chip that you can turn off when you want to use the nitrous.

I believe you can get the chip reprogrammed ,for a fee, to work with the nitrous.

With some of the older chips, it will be hard to find someone to reprogram them if at all.

yea i figured as much. stupid me trying to save some $$ by buying the cheaper single program chip. I should have gotten the sct switch chip that can hold a regular program and one programmed to run nitrous. Anyone interested in a brand new $250 superchip(95 lincoln mark8)? I may want to make the switch this summer to the sct so i can run nos, depending on how much $ I get for graduation. its a 300 chip plus another 80 bucks for the second tune for nitrous.
Im on the verge of creating a sleeper! haha

Whatever you do don't run nitrous with your SCT chip since your timing is probably advanced. You don't need a new chip, just have it reburned for like $50 for the nitrous. The only difference is timing will be stock again and the air/fuel ratio probably adjusted to run more rich.

Try Mustang shops they seem to have the ability to reprogram most chips, across several generations.

Yea i would hate to get rid of the chip (superchip)because it helps with the tranny noticably. Maybe if i get a wet nitrous system tuned with a larger fuel jet i may be able to run the chip with the nitrous. Ill have to take it to a shop to have them check the timing advance on the ignition to see if it is possible.

how exactly is Matts car set up? I thought i saw a fuel pressure regulator and guage. Is there any other mods he had to do to make the air fuel ratio and the ignition advance correct to run nitrous? Any other mods to the car to make it hold up with the nitrous? Does the chip he has have a similar tune to the superchip?

I would sell your current chip and get a dual program flipchip. That way you can have one setting for slightly modified form and then another with timing retarded and a/f a little richer to compensate for the nitrous hit so you don't go lean. Best of both worlds.

Either way, when you run nitrous I HIGHLY reccomend that you have dynotuned for it. If you run nitrous in stock untuned form you are at high risk of detonation due to the PCM not being able to make the commanded a/f meet actual a/f due to unmetered air (nitrous) making its way into the engine.

Yeah you could spray pre-MAF but that has its issues too that I am sure you dont want to deal with.

I agree with all that, but don't the nitrous kits compensate the A/F ratios by adding fuel or fuel pressure when spraying?

All Matt has is our chip, maf, exhaust and MSD wires, colder plugs, afpr, 255 high pressure high volume fuel pump (important with NOS) 4.10's with a posi and thats really it.

Yes Sir.

Thats what this does.

The chip that you programmed for Matt is it only set up to compensate for his gearing?. Is it not tuned specially to run nitrous? because Im pretty sure the superchip advances timing and leans the fuel mixture a bit to help performance but I've heard you want the car to have the exact opposite when you hit the nitrous. (retard timing a bit and richin the mix a bit to compensate for the nitrous.)

Some do and some don't. I believe your vehicles are still running a return fuel system right/ In that case Zex and a few other makers do make a kit that will monitor fuel pressure and compensate the shot size accordingly. Still it is best to tune for it also. Most dry kits on the market now don't have that function because there are quite a few vehicle makers that have all went to returnless fuel system cars now.

Wet kits do have the function of adding more fuel but I like dry kits because they are cheaper, simpler, and they avoid the fuel puddling in intake and blowing its top off at an inopportune time, problem. :D
