Just took my dash apart on my 91 lincoln to do a DSl tuneup and now when i turn my headlights on my dash lights go off took it back apart again and now no lights at all need some help on this one guys. What should I do?

I tested my dimmer switch and it tested good when you start the car up the lights come on but after about 40 seconds they shut off I replaced all the light bulbs in the dash with new ones still not working, I cleaned the copper contacts with a little sandpaper to get the dirt off, maybe I messed somthing up doing that to wear its not making much contact with the connector, anybody know what else it could be it was working just fine before i cleaned the connectors? Please help me!

maybe PWM module... what actually controls the power to the dash lites. The dimmer tells it how bright to get, it does the hard work.

looking at my 92 cd manual.. Behind LH side of I/P, above fuse panel.

best I can give you, since I have not actually looked for it on my lincoln.

there is also a ground that could be problem.. for most of I/P... its location is
Top front of LH fender apron, looks like kinda between battery and headlights! Yes, ground for most of dash is there! at least according to my 92 manual

I had this problem on my 94 and it turned out to be the top black connector on the back that was loose.

the black connectors on the IP do not control the IP's lights. they are power and signal for the computer and LCD's. if there is a problem with them connections, the total dash could go black, giving impression of no lights.

You see, the dash is light from behind, and the LCD's allow the light to pass or block light depending on which segments are desired to be on. unlike many other digital dash's (my jimmy as an example, as well as the display in the climate control), which are florescent (sp?) or gas plasma type. they generate there own light.
