my car doesnt make heat unless i have the rpms's over like 3k....is this a thermostate or a waterpump?

Does your temperature gauge read normally? (Does it quickly go to the half-way mark and stay there the whole time?)
If so, then it is probably the aux electric water pump, and not the main (belt-driven) water pump.

If not, then thermostat is a good guess. Also check for air bubbles in the coolant.

if your engine is running cold at all times i'd think something in your gauge is toast or a relay measurement thingy is shorted out. i'm not too keen on all the electornic little doohickies, but if its nothing like that and your engine is cold when running at all times send it to NASA. its worth millions of dollars.

yes now that you mention it. it does shoot up fairly fast and stay here. what is an aux pump going to run me?

No idea what they cost. Verify it is getting power before replacing it. Come to think of it, verify that it really is the problem first. It's just my guess from many miles away.

so wait a minute your complaining because your car isn't running hot enough... that makes now since... worry about it once it over heats... then you have a problem! if you have a first gen, yes they warm up fast.

no my car heats up my hot air doesnt work unless high rpm's. the needle will read middle and if i let it sit or drive slow for a while it reads a little past middle. it never gets farther than just a hair past it though. also when i let it sit the fans will kick on after a while

Check your coolant level. My bet is that you are low and/or have air in your system. I've had this same problem.

Ditto. (low coolant in an old Ford pickup not the LS) Change the thermostat out anyway. It is quick and easy and just removes one more possibility. Of course, if the coolant is low there is likely a reason behind that. And I have never had radiator stop leak actually work for me
