Analysis: He won, but for what?
By JENNIFER LOVEN, AP White House Correspondent

WASHINGTON – The awarding of the Nobel Peace Price to President Barack Obama landed with a shock on darkened, still-asleep Washington. He won! For what?

For one of America's youngest presidents, in office less than nine months — and only for 12 days before the Nobel nomination deadline last February — it was an enormous honor.

The prize seems to be more for Obama's promise than for his performance. Read More Here

Funniest damn thing I have ever heard.

This confirms the Peace Prize to be a joke.

And the most ironic happenstance is that it will be Hussein who ends up starting the next world war and will be responsible for the single largest extermination of humans in a single event in mankind's history.

But just imagine how wonderful the narrative would have been had it not been for those damned Americans, like the 9/12ers and TeaParty Goers, who have effectively interrupted his progress.

Think about how the media would be able to seize on this story following the expected political victories of the summer- and then this story would come out confirming to the press how wonderful a leader he is and how the world embraces 'us' now.

What an absolutely fraud being perpetrated on the public.

You have to understand this was voted on in FEBRUARY. Ostammer had been in office for only a few weeks and HAD DONE NOTHING.

So this award must be for the best orator of a teleprompter because that is all this guy has accomplished.

Even SNL gets it now.
Skit

Well, who knows what they are smoking in Oslo these days... Or maybe it was a really good year for schnapps.

Another example of Obama idolatry, IMO...

Well, who knows what they are smoking in Stockholm these days... Or maybe it was a really good year for schnapps.

That really isn't a sufficient explanation for why this so-called prestigious award was awarded to the Obama, or why he was nominated after just two weeks of service as the President.

Is there any doubt what a political fraud that this award is now?

You have to understand this was voted on in FEBRUARY.

YOU LIE!

He was nominated in Feb, the vote is in Oct. Nice distortion dufus.

http://nobelprize.org/nomination/peace/process.html

Below is a brief description of the process involved in selecting the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates.

September – Invitation letters are sent out. The Nobel Committee sends out invitation letters to individuals qualified to nominate – members of national assemblies, governments, and international courts of law; university chancellors, professors of social science, history, philosophy, law and theology; leaders of peace research institutes and institutes of foreign affairs; previous Nobel Peace Prize Laureates; board members of organizations that have received the Nobel Peace Prize; present and past members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee; and former advisers of the Norwegian Nobel Institute.

February – Deadline for submission. The Committee bases its assessment on nominations that must be postmarked no later than 1 February each year. Nominations postmarked and received after this date are included in the following year's discussions. In recent years, the Committee has received close to 200 different nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize. The number of nominating letters is much higher, as many are for the same candidates.

February-March – Short list. The Committee assesses the candidates' work and prepares a short list.

March-August – Adviser review. The short list is reviewed by permanent advisers and advisers specially recruited for their knowledge of specific candidates. The advisers do not directly evaluate nominations nor give explicit recommendations.

October – Nobel Laureates are chosen. At the beginning of October, the Nobel Committee chooses the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates through a majority vote. The decision is final and without appeal. The names of the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates are then announced.

December – Nobel Laureates receive their prize. The Nobel Peace Prize Award Ceremony takes place on 10 December in Oslo, Norway, where the Nobel Laureates receive their Nobel Prize, which consists of a Nobel Medal and Diploma, and a document confirming the prize amount.

DNC said:
"The Republican Party has thrown in its lot with the terrorists -- the Taliban and Hamas this morning -- in criticizing the President for receiving the Nobel Peace prize," wrote DNC Communications Director Brad Woodhouse. "Republicans cheered when America failed to land the Olympics and now they are criticizing the President of the United States for receiving the Nobel Peace prize -- an award he did not seek but that is nonetheless an honor in which every American can take great pride -- unless of course you are the Republican Party. The 2009 version of the Republican Party has no boundaries, has no shame and has proved that they will put politics above patriotism at every turn. It's no wonder only 20 percent of Americans admit to being Republicans anymore - it's an embarrassing label to claim."

:bowrofl:

Obama's election and foreign policy moves caused a dramatic improvement in the image of the U.S. around the world. A 25-nation poll of 27,000 people released in July by the Pew Global Attitudes Project found double-digit boosts to the percentage of people viewing the U.S. favorably in countries around the world. That indicator had plunged across the world under President George W. Bush.

So Obama's critics apparently WANT the rest of this planet to hate the US. Classy.

Ppl say it too early for the nobel since he only been in office 9months

Ironic But it's not too to criticize his efforts thus far... Silly ppl

Ppl act like he ask to be nominated before he started his presidency and that asked to win. Regardless, he got it so be happy or quiet. They give the nobel peace prize to whoever they want, it's theirs to give. Also, where was the uproar when Jimmy Carter received it?

Again, he was nominated after just weeks in office. But even if it were 9 months- what specific accomplish is he being rewarded for?

Why did he win this award?
Was it done in anticipation of what he was going to accomplish, or is an effort by the politically like minded internationalists to influence how he governs or how he's able to govern?

Ironic But it's not too to criticize his efforts thus far... Silly ppl
Of course. It's completely reasonable to criticize him for things he's done... that's different than rewarding someone for things they want done.

he got it so be happy or quiet.
No.

They give the nobel peace prize to whoever they want, it's theirs to give. Also, where was the uproar when Jimmy Carter received it?
Putting aside the fact I have very little respect for Jimmy Carter and I did believe that his winning the award further demonstrated how ridiculous the award really was.

But Carter won the award in 2002, specifically for his failed work in bringing about a peaceful resolution to the Israeli/Palestinian dispute. Though absurd, that's considerably different than had he been nominated for it in February, 1977.

I can understand the nomination, even 2 weeks into his tenure. If he had somehow brought peace to the middle east, it would have been rather embarrassing to the committee if they couldn't have awarded him the prize on the technicality that he hadn't been nominated. It was 'insurance' on their part.

I think it is too early... The committee has backed themselves into a corner. What happens if Obama does do something great regarding world peace, maybe even next year, they won't give him the award again, or who knows, first 2-year-in-a-row winner?

The peace prize has become quite political, and the Nobel committee needs to re-evaluate how they choose the recipients.

NOBODY WILL ACCOMPLISH WORLD PEACE! So why don't we just hang it up...

Or was the award given for effort. The climate has change since his pursuit of office and ppl in general are more aware of political matters. If That's not good enough, what are you expecting? 100% Tranquility

Be realistic... You have better things to direct your anger towards. How about why you pay insurance companies to be the middle man. Can't you pay the hospitals directly without interference of what's not covered.

That really isn't a sufficient explanation for why this so-called prestigious award was awarded to the Obama, or why he was nominated after just two weeks of service as the President.
Personally, I agree with the analysts who said this was done as a direct shot at President Bush. Other than that, there's no conceivable reason for even nominating someone who has essentially done nothing over the last decade other than run for his next office...

It was 'insurance' on their part.
If the Messiah had descended from his perch and solved the problems of the world in 9 months, I think it would have been acceptable to give him the award in 2010.

That's a ridiculous excuse.

Why the hell would you presume he's going to save the world when, so far, he's only succeeded in making things LESS stable?

:bsflag:

You need to take off your hate goggles, tune-out Faux News and get a clue.

He's called-out Iran and they are now allowing inspections of their Nuke facilities.

He's got the Isralis and Palestinians talking.

World opinion of the USA has skyrocketed.

Favorable Opinion of US:

I didn't say that I would presume that - it is just something that might happen... Aliens could land tomorrow too...

Oh Jeremy Brett - not Basil Rathbone

You're a simpleton moron.
I don't view these things in Republican/Democrat terms.
I'm not "sore" over the election.
I'm disappointed and worried about the decisions and direction the President and Congress are taking this country. And I share that same disappointment with a great number of the Republicans in power as well.

Also, your assessment of current event and foreign policy is naive.
You are little more than cheer leader for the guy.

But, you're giving him credit for "calling out" Iran.
"Obama challenged Iran to abandon an underground nuclear program and take “concrete actions” to ensure the world it will comply with international law.

The hope doesn't end there... from your article:
and the president is hopeful the agency will move quickly with Iran’s cooperation.

I feel much safer.
I'm sure the Israeli's breathed a deep sigh of relief upon that news.

So, Johnny, what are we going to do about this nuclear Iranian threat?
Talk about it some more? How long will that take? You don't think the Iranians have a vested interest in dragging this out over months, maybe years?

Apparently, newspapers around the world are asking the same thing:
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/10/09/international-media-reactions-obama-peace-prize/
I think my favorite reaction is from the UK's Telegraph:
Telegraph: Obama's Won the Nobel Peace Prize -- WTF?!

Barack Obama has won the Nobel Peace prize and I'm still reeling at the shock. Most of us are, I should think. Here are my theories as to how it might have come about:

1. Unlike in most of the rest of the world Obama Kool Aid (TM) remains Oslo's most popular beverage.

2. The Norwegian prize committee's sense of irony is growing ever more sophisticated, as it hinted when it gave the prize in 2002 to comedy ex-president Jimmy Carter, and hinted more strongly when it gave the prize in 2007 to climate-fear-promoting comedy failed-president Al Gore.

3. The other candidates on the shortlist were Robert Mugabe; Osama Bin Laden; Ahmed Jibril; and the late Pol Pot.

World opinion of the USA has skyrocketed.

World confidence in the POTUS has skyrocketed.

Oh look Johnny, the world loves us. Ohhh, I feel so secure.
The President runs around the world telling everyone how much we suck and now they love us?

Dude, you have some serious, and I mean serious, self image problems. You are always projecting.
You, my dear, need help.

Its cause he's black

Did anyone ever question all of the other nobel winners?

Congrats to president Obama the most hated on man in the world.

What will people say if he declines to accept because he feels he's not worthy?

What will people say if he declines to accept because he feels he's not worthy?
That's not a concern.
His ego would never let that happen. He really is the "chosen one."

And, he already accepted it this afternoon, in an embarrassing speech.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB125507885722575625.html
That's not the "formal" acceptance... but I'm sure he'll be there to accept it. He loves the camera.
And the coverage of the trip will be glowing- it might be the "positive" story Obama desperately needs by then.

Just makes you wonder how powerful these people pushing this New World Order are.
Destroying our currency.
Supporting nuclear terrorists to neutralize our policing of the world.
Nominating for President two guys that didn't qualify for the office.
Pushing the puppet Ostammer when half the country is brighter that this guy.

I really feel these NWO people are running the show right now.
