basically pretty much as the title says...

I have been lookin at lincoln ls's not for very long now... and am considering getting one very strongly...

any hints? what to look for? any years or anything to look out for?

I know very little about ford products... let alone lincolns...

here is a pic of my current car...

First of all what area are ya from and welcome to the forum. I love it and come here everyday since I discovered it. But, I am guessing you are a big fan of the luxury sport class. There is not much to choose from yet. But, if your looking for something faster then your GTP you might want to keep it. Because the LS doesn't have as much as a market for aftermarket parts. But, if your looking for something decently fast and looks good. The LS is your pinnacle of l/s decisions. I would look for an LS that is under a 100k and an 03 and above if I could go back. Or if it did have more then a 100k I would make sure it had its 100k mile maintenance. But, look for rust under the hood and make sure it hasn't been in any major accidents.

aaahhhh my first search nazi.

thank you very much.

im going to be keepin my gtp... i want something that wont get me pulled over as much, and something to drive while my gtp is down for a cam swap and turbo kit... also i want it to be different...

so i sprung upon lincoln ls's...

i know they arent fast... my gtp goes 13.6s at 3800 lbs with a 2.1 60 ft... on the 18s you see in the pics... and not too many mods out there for ls's... which is good because then i will not want to mod it (gtp has too much money sank into it.

im from north of chicago...

what years do i stay away from? are these cars easily repairable... (my gtp can be taken apart with a 10mm, 13mm, and 15mm socket... pretty much everything. and its simple... )

It seems as if misfiring issues plague the LS. In my opinion, either get an 03 V8 with less than 50k on the odometer because the ignition coils are under 100k mile warranty; or get an 06 for right around $20k.

If I could go back, I would have put the 10k, for my 2000 down, and made the other 10k in payments on an 06.

I thought the GTP was already supercharged. Are you saying you're going to turbocharge a supercharged engine? Sorry, I'm a pontiac noob.

no no its all good...

they are supercharged... but the supercharger is very inefficient... and while it will take a gtp to the 11s... a turbo is a much easier way to get there...

so what i am kinda deriving from these posts is that anything with 100000 plus i should stay away from?

ive seen a few 01s and 00s with 100000 plus for less than 5k... is that just a nitemare waiting to happen? with gtps... lil :q:q:q:q will break all the time... but nothing on my car will break that i cant fix myself for under 800bucks... (knocks on wood) ive got a built trans... the stock block is good for close to900 hp... and yeah... she holds 50+ for oil pressure...

If your going for a less expensive one, get a 02. Pretty big drop in price compared too 03up. Last year of the Gen1s and most kinks where appearently worked out. I have 80k without a single problem unless you count the steering wheel radio controls acting funny once in a while. The only maintenance I've done beside a/c filters and oil changes would be front brakes at around 62-63k and rear brakes just in the last 1k. And while there is no aftermarket some things can be done to make them go.

And I'm not exactly easy on it.

The LS has a few common issues. It is by no means cheap to fix, no matter what year. I do all of my maintenance myself and have saved alot of money. coils are an average of 50 bucks a piece, expect to change these on a regular basis. clockspring go out, think around 150. door handles and latches 50 to 400 dollar repair depending on what breaks, overflow bucket about 100 bucks. fan issues are not as common, but if you have that problem you might as well convert to an electric fan. few tranny issues, better have warranty. overheating issues (fan, thermostat sticking, overflow bucket). The mysterious dead battery issue (different causes). do a search titled COMMON PROBLEMS LS . While I love my car more than most, I have been very disappointed with quality and power.

Yea the only issue I've really had is the ignition coil misfiring crap. So I just took it to a dealer and got them to replace the valve cover gaskets and any fouled coils and so far so good. But we'll see how it is in a few months.
