o2 sensor help

Hey guys, thank you in advance for welcoming me to the site. Im in a bit of a pickle. I got inspection due and i would like to pass the state inspection. I drive a 94 Mark 8 and im getting codes saying that the banks are running lean. Is it the sensors? im getting like 13 mpg so im figuring its that. Thanks
 
Go to rockauto.com and get Motorcraft 02's for 1/2 the price. The 10" wire will work perfect. I would also take the MAF out, take it apart and spray it clean with CRC MAF cleaner. Let it dry for a few minutes and put the MAF box and all back together with a clean filter. Disconnect the battery for a few minutes and then see what kind of codes you have after connecting it back and running it. Hope you're using 93 octane also.

Bosch 02's suck so don't think you're saving anything by buying them. Motorcraft is the way to go.

ty for the info, yea i guess ill have to try that but am i going to have to drop the exhaust?

oh and i guess im returning some sensors today haha, Az had bosch:Bang
 
Bosch O2's are fine, I've been using them for years. It's all a matter of preference.

You shouldn't have to drop the exhaust to change the O2's, the real trick is getting to the connectors.
 
I was getting the lean bank code too and after changing the O2 the code hasn't returned. I too was getting ridiculously low gas mileage before changing it. I was also getting very strong fuel smells before too.

I got my O2 from Ford for like $57. It was cheaper than the aftermarket ones were so it's a no brainer. Call around though because some Ford dealerships wanted $80 whereas the one I bought from wanted $57.
 
I had noticed that the clamp was missing from the hose part right after the air box so i figured thats why im running lean becuz of all the extra air goin unnoticed, but im getting a persistent code from bank 2 so im guessing ill replace that o2 but im not sure which is bank 2 .passenger side?:confused:

Driver's side
 
Drivers side is an easy change. To make things easy, I did drop the pass side exhaust and the connectors were easy for me. I done it all from under the car.

DLF, you're one of the lucky ones that have had good luck with Bosch and yeah, it is a preference issue I suppose but when you put the two side by side, the Motorcraft seems to have a better air flow tip than Bosch and for the price, I was able to get two Motorcraft 02's from rockauto cheaper than the Bosch from AZ. My local Ford dealer wanted nearly $100 for each one but I got two from RA for that price. I just prefer the real deal. Too many people have had problems with Bosch.
 
My new wideband is a Bosch and it dont worry me. This was the first place that ever said Bosch was problomatic. I have run them for years in other cars with no issues. Had them in my 96 Cobra for two years before I sold it.
 
I'd have to agree with DLF, I put Bosch in my 96 and have no issues at all-I've used them in other vehicles as well and when looking at PID's from my scanner they switch rapidly and range from .1 to .9 in closed loop-that's what they are supposed to do if everything is correct upstream. I didn't specifically look for a brand when I bought mine about three years ago, I was getting a code for a 'lazy' sensor and installed them because they were available from the local Advance auto.
 
Ok guys, i got a chance to use the lift at work and replaced the passenger side o2 w/o taking exhaust down. Noticed big diff in my mpg from my 5 mile drive home. I was gonna do the drivers side but i cant see the connector clip anywhere and it looked like it ran toward the firewall somewhere out of sight. Any clue on what to do?

I told you that finding the connectors was the issue. You just have to follow the wire and somehow get your hand in there, it's a PITA.
 
The bigger the hands are, the harder it is but it is do-able. I had my car about 2ft. off the garage floor when I done mine and it wasn't that bad. Drivers side was easier than the passenger side to me. I just grabbed the wire and pulled it down to see the connector. Yours could be tucked away better than mine were, idk.
