Text of Obama's Speech to School Kids is Released: Oh My God, Republicans Were Right!

The White House on Monday released the text of President Barack Obama's highly controversial speech to the nation's school children Tuesday. As expected and feared by those on the right, the speech, I'm embarrassed to say, is truly shamefully partisan and full of dangerous radical views. Here it is:

"Hello children, both Democrats and those whose parents belong to that less desirable party. Today is a very big day for you. Your first day back to school. I hope you enjoyed your Summer vacation. I tried to enjoy mine, but certain members of an un-named right-wing political party have made the past two months a living hell for me. But this isn't about me, so let's discuss why I've decided to talk with you today.

Education. It's the backbone and foundation of our society. It's what makes America great. And you as young school children represent America's future. It's important that you study hard, set goals and expand your horizons...and most importantly, that you desperately try to convince your Republican parents that they are 100% wrong about every domestic issue from taxes to health care reform to abortion, gun control and gay marriage. But I digress...

Each and every one of you has the same ability to succeed in life no matter what obstacles you face. If your family is poor, you can still go to college ... unless of course the Republican Party, should it ever return to power, completely guts Pell Grants, student loans and other tuition-assistance programs.

Yes, you are our future. We need your collective brainpower. We need you to find a cure for AIDS and cancer. We need you to protect the environment by helping to develop alternative energy sources, green jobs and other environmental protections ... because the Republican Party refuses to accept that global warming exists, and only cares about protecting oil companies and corporate polluters.

And since you asked, let's talk health care reform. Many of your parents would like you to believe that my "public option" package would kill your grannies. You march right into your living rooms tonight and tell your parents they're full of :q:q:q:q! Just like that. And tell 'em Uncle Barack said so. Trust me kids, if anyone's lying here, it's mommy and daddy. And another thing, if there's a political party that cares about the old, the poor, the sick, the hungry, veterans and puppies, it ain't the Republicans. Republicans wanna kill puppies!

Now the last thing I'd like to discuss with you is the need for you to get involved. Care about your community, your city, your state, your country. Even me, your president. Ask how you can help. How you can support what I'm trying to do to fix the economy, end our two wars and get America back to being the greatest nation in the world. But I can't do it alone. I need you to join the Young Democrats Club. Visit our website. Go to meetings. Wear our uniform. Learn our secret handshake. We're the fun party! And we're smart, too. C'mon, we both know that any party who sees Sarah Palin as their future, well, that's pretty dang scary, right?

So go home, tell mommy and daddy that we had a simple little chat today, and that everything's ok. Then help me in this revolution! Watch your email for further information.

Good day kids, and God bless (I say "God" with a wink because, as everyone knows, I'm a God-less communist/socialist/fascist/Muslim terrorist who hates Jesus and America).

Have fun at lunch!"
President Obama
:runaway:

"But this isn't about me, so let's discuss why I've decided to talk with you today."

LOL. I guess that's why Obama used 56 iterations of the word "I" in his speech.

The speech does not even remotely match the 'lesson' plan the Obamanzis had planned for extra in-class credit. Iwouldn't call it homework, because if that sh!t went home, it wouldn't have been returned.

Just admit Obumbler got *owned* before he could do any damage to our kids.

Now i have to ask were yall this critical of a man who took advantage of the deaths of all those people on 9\11 to further his own agendas surely yall saw through the weapons of mass destruction lies and knew it was all bs i was not on this forum then but i have to ask if king george the man who capitolized on 9\11 to go to war with a country who was not a threat to us at the time murder thousands of people soldiers civilians etc and he seems to be a good president im sorry but it will take a lot before i feel we need to watch obama after the wild out of control bs of the 8 years prior

Getting a good education is a precious commodity.

Thanks Cal for changing your tune based on the facts
My tune is consistent, the "facts" changed in response.
The presentation that was released on Monday was fine, though inconsistent with the tone of the pre-released 'study guides.'

I don't think the speech presented was the complete one intended.

But, they released the speech in advanced, I thought it was acceptable, and I wouldn't have recommended to anyone that they keep their kid home today.

Care to provide a specific? What "fear based paranoid fantasy" have they presented?

You have got to be kidding, right? Rachael put together a good compilation. This whole thread you started is just another example of your gulible, lock-step blind belief in anything that is pure fantasy and lacking any basis in facts that those whackos let dribble out their mouths. You should be embarrassed.

..so you can't.
I understand. Thanks.

You are just sore that this positive, inspirational, conservate message could never have been delivered by GW BuSh and instead was given by Obama. That's understandable, but it still really sucks for your party. :bowrofl:

What Was All the Fuss About?
September 9, 2009
Kathleen Parker

WASHINGTON -- Just when you thought things couldn't get any stupider, schools across the nation decided to censor President Obama's speech urging kids to work hard because "being successful is hard."

And that, ladies and gentlemen, was the terribly scary bit of propaganda that prompted certain Americans to cry "socialism" and "indoctrination," and force some schools to opt out of hearing the president's message Tuesday.

When and how did we become so ridiculous?

As it turns out, we've been this way for a while now. Such protests aren't new, a review of which follows shortly. The difference is that now, the masses are technologically enabled, amplified by a twillion tweets. Everybody's got a megaphone, bless democracy's heart.

But when a protest of one (or a few) can instantly morph into a babble of thousands, rabble-rousing becomes a hobby -- and rational debate becomes an oxymoron.

Granting a supersized benefit of the doubt to protesters, Obama's speech originally included classroom instructional materials from the Department of Education that asked students to express how they were inspired by the president and how they might help him.

Too political, critics said. Indoctrination, charged Florida Republican Chairman Jim Greer.

"As the father of four children, I am absolutely appalled that taxpayer dollars are being used to spread President Obama's socialist ideology," Greer said.

Some conservative radio and television hosts latched onto the specter of youth camps past and encouraged parents to keep their children home from school in protest.

OK, benefit-of-doubt rescinded. Even asking kids to help the president improve the nation doesn't justify charges of socialist indoctrination. John F. Kennedy's famous "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country" is hardly considered a bugle call to summer camp in the Urals.

Essentially, Obama's speech, which aired live, focused on encouraging students to evaluate how they might contribute to making America better. "What problems are you going to solve? What discoveries will you make?"

Anyone who heard or read the address will have found little to criticize, except perhaps that it was a tad boring, too long -- and certifiably schmaltzy. Then again, he was talking to kids, some of them as young as 5. Even former first lady Laura Bush and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich approved of the president's talk.

Presidential speeches to students aren't a new development. The St. Petersburg Times' indispensable PolitiFact.com "Truth-O-Meter" notes that both Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush gave such addresses. And, yes, Democrats protested. Reagan's speech was, in fact, political, as he went beyond stressing the importance of education to discussing nuclear disarmament, defense funding and even taxes. Talk about a snooze.

Gingrich, who at the time of Bush's address was House Republican whip, defended the president's right to speak directly to students. But Richard Gephardt, then the House Democratic leader, said the Education Department shouldn't be producing "paid political advertising for the president. ... And the president should be doing more about education than saying, 'Lights, camera, action.'"

And round and round we go. The hysterics, it would seem, have reached a detente. Or, one hopes, canceled each other out. Compared to previous presidential addresses, Obama's was strictly apolitical. It was also quintessential Obama -- aimed at healing, at soothing the afflicted and making things all better. The speech was so brimming with pathos, it seemed to have been concocted around a campfire where kids recalled their worst day in school.

Addressing all ages of students, from kindergartners to 12th graders, presents clear challenges, but Obama managed to hit every group's vulnerabilities and insecurities -- from being bullied, to not fitting in, to having a divided family. Hey, he's been there!

And now he's president. You can be, too, was the subtext. What's so wrong with that?

One might have wished Obama's remarks cut by half. It also would have been nice if he had thrown in an Ashley or a Jonah amongst the students he featured -- Jazmin, Andoni and Shantell. But overall, the president's message was a conservative hymn, a GOP platform for kiddies: Take personal responsibility, don't blame others for your failures, listen to your parents and your teachers, work hard.

"Here in America, you write your own destiny. You make your own future."

The only thing missing from this orgy of conservative orthodoxy was ... a Republican president. And that is the lesson of the day.

You are just sore that this positive, inspirational, conservate message could never have been delivered by GW BuSh and instead was given by Obama.
I'm not "sore" about anything.
And the address delivered was neither "unique" or a particularly inspiration.
The delivered speech was fine and of little note.
It could have been delivered by nearly anybody... minus some of the misrepresented personal bits he through in.

That's understandable, but it still really sucks for your party. :bowrofl:
I don't have "a party."
I have a country, that is all I'm concerned about.

Perhaps you should put the country and the constitution before party for a while. Then maybe you wouldn't be such a delusional belligerent tool.
