oil pan

I picked up one from a Mark Viii motor from a local speed shop they were just going to throw away... It's not as bad as the one on my car... But I'm kinda scared to try and tamper with it... Might do more harm than good...

If I got one I'd blast it, inspect it, do some welding if necessary, and then have it powder coated.

This is amazing but when I leave the net I actually do a lot of Hot Rodding for real... no way huh??

BTW... if you need any sheet metal work done it's kind of my favorite work :)

I hate it but do what I have to... I'm looking at guns right now, I need to do some paint work on my car soon.

i still have one oil pan left in awesome condition, off a 97, will fit 93-98. first $150 takes it or i'll put it on ebay for all the vultures.

I love bodywork, I'm self taught, not perfect yet, but getting there. But I'm an impatient person... and a lazy procrastinator... bad combo eh?

Yet things seem to turn out well... when I get around to them

Not a proper windage tray, no. It does have some kinda' welded in, part-windage tray doohickey with some other welded angles for oil control... And a separate reservoir on the side. I'll take a pic tomorrow and post it here.

alright i appreciate it, im on a quest to get around 350 to the flywheel and thats one of the first things that came to mind and was thinkin if they didn't that it wouldn't be too much of an effort for LMS or someone else to come up with one that is worthy

Gimme 20 mins... I'll take that pic. :)

Edit: Here we go:

haha i'd have to say i think we'd all benefit from a real windage tray. baffling in there looks like something from a last minute highschool project. something i'm gonna have to look into

done deal.. rpmoutlet.com has one that goes in between block & pan using 2 gaskets $75

Cool. Will that be a direct fit into a Mark VIII then?

No adverse effects?

not 100% sure but i believe it is, i read a post on some cobra site, guy with a 96 cobra demolished his cylinder wall and used a 96 mk8 block to replace it and his tray fit. but i emailed rpmoutlet's tech for the final word i will let you know what they say. assuming the pickups are the same or similar the only problem i could see is having to trim the baffles, particularly at the rear of the pan.

Well, the 96 Cobra block is the same as a Mark VIII block. (Teksid)

However, the oil pans are different. Mark VIII oil pan is unique. So, what might work for Cobra guys may not work for us.

This the tray you were looking at?

I've never compared the Mark VIII and 96-98 Cobra pans side by side, but I know they are different.

I don't think there is gonna be room for that tray to be sandwiched between our blocks and pans.

Our pan is very shallow at the front end (approx 1.5'' deep) and has all those baffles, some of which actually sit proud of the pan. I think, at the very least, they'd need to be removed, which may have a bad effect. Also, (I haven't looked into this) but, there may also be pick up tube differences which may pose a clearance problem.

I honestly don't think the guys at rpm outlet would be knowledeable on Mark VIII's.

Might be something you'd have to modify / fabricate yourself.

In fact, If the tray isn't something that can be easily fitted, I'd be inclined to forget the idea and concentrate the efforts elsewhere.

Modifying the pan itself may have serious negative consequences you may not see straight away.

Last thing you want is oil starvation / aeration during race conditons or on sharp turns / inclines / declines.

all questions have been answered by this fella http://www.cardomain.com/ride/676260 i believe i've seen that car around on here. baffles have to be modified. will have to track this fella down and see if he's had any problems, that page was last updated in 04 so i figure 5 years should be long enough to see a problem. why add a tray? better oil control, atleast a slight increase in power especially at high rpm (5-6500) and low cost. if i get nothing out of it.. so be it, it was worth a try. if i do kudos to me i'm that much closer to the power i'm aiming for. either way it will be a while before anything gets put on the car, i've gotta get her back in shape, bad balljoint, abs sensor, broken doorhanle, dented fender, no grill or left sidelight, leaking pan and the list goes on. figured i might as well see what i want to do after everything else is fixed so i can pick stuff up as i go

That's cool. Yeah, I figured the baffles would need to be modified, just as long as there are no long term side effects, all should be well.

By the way, that guy is an active and very reputable member of LOD. He has since supercharged that car.

He has a profile here too, although he's not very active. Sierra3 is the name.

I might have to look into this stuff.... never really researched it....

How about a full dry sump setup :D

full dry sump.. definately a good idea but you better have deep pockets and make room for the pump & reservoir haha. my girlfriends dad does 4x4 mud drags and he's building up a 711cid with dry sump, he went to get a pan(need diff pan) they wanted 1200 or so for it obviously he opted to make it himself. a lot of stuff taken from racing can be applied and i'll bet my money not too many ppl on here have tried or thought about some of the stuff i.e. thinner rod journals, 3mm oil ring(+approx. 10ft lbs tq)
