oil pressure

I oil pressure tested my 68,000 mile mark last night. Iv been trying to find the cause of the loud valve train I have at idle.
i will admit when I bought the car 3 years ago I added underdrives w/ fluid dampener ......I used an impact


not sure how bad these readings are.

cold idle 80 psi
hot idle 15 psi

hot @ 2000 rpm 50psi
hot @2500 rpm 60psi
hot @3000 rpm 75psi


the car sounds good at start up but once the rpms fall to 800 the sound starts instantly whether the engine is hot or cold. engine always sounds better by giving it more throttle

Im think that the hot idle is low but my cold idle doesn't seem too bad, yet the valve train and timing chain are pretty loud even at a cold idle. the oil light has never come on ether

previously I thought it might have been bad lash adjusters, so i replaced all 16 in the passenger head but it made no improvement.

Just tested mine 5 minutes ago the spec says it should be 24-40 PSI at idle and the higher RPM sounds about the same as my readings. Cold idle sounds correct, hot not so much. Using 5w-20 oil correct?

Yes I've alway put 5w-20 synthetic 6 quarts

Pretty sure your hot is half what it should be.

Mine tested at 32 or 34 a few months back.

I know the pump needs to be replaced, but i wonder if it will address the ticking and possible chain slap im hearing at 800 rpm.

since my cold idle pressure is good I would think that the sounds wouldn't occur until the engine oil has warmed up after afew minutes. the sounds start about 20 seconds after cold or hot start once the rpms fall to 800.

I had the same problem last fall. There was the loud ticking at hi or low rpm coming out of the passenger side valve cover.

I found the #2 valve lash adjuster to be the one causing the ticking sound. Got that replaced. I noticed no oil being pumped onto the valves. So I traced that to a clogged oil tube. Found a small piece of gasket material blocking oil flow. Removed the clog and now everything is running smoothly.

I guess it was the clogged tube that caused the whole problem in the first place.
