when i drive my car all is well untill i let off the gass it feels like the torque converter is going crazy (locking and unlocking)

my question is how is this controled do any speed sensors have any thing to do with the t/c how is it controled? has anyone had this same problem? i know the tc is the most problematic thing on this car. is there anything i should do to test it? i am doing the mercv and jmod within the week and do not want to waist my $100 in mercv when i do this. do you think this will solve my problem?

and finally if it turns out to be the t/c what is the best bang for my buck.

please any input would be awesome. a community brainstorm would be the shiznit.

1993 no shudder 105k it recently sat for a few years and a mouse chewed all kinds of stuff up i am 50 mi. from my house. at my fathers house and if it is a quick fix i will fix it in the driveway.

do the abs speed sensors have anything to do wiyh it i just noticed they are chewed off

i am going to spend the night at my dad's house tonight. the only reason is i do not want to hurt this car so any help would be awsome. pp

i have a whopin 62mi of seat time in it and have spent about $2000 on it. abs speed sensor anyone

You're about to spend even more and it's not going to fix your problem. I know exactly what your car is doing because my black 94 was doing it too. It done it with the original 94 transmission and it still done it when I put in the 98 J-Modded transmission WITH the 98 TC.

If you don't have shudder during light acceleration, then you don't have transmission problems. Nothing wrong with doing the J-Mod and flushing out all the fluid and changing it but you will still have that problem when you get done.

My third cat was stopped up but before I found out what the real problem was lol, I done this to it.

What did it look like before this?

All I can suggest is to leave the fuel injectors alone. Have your cats checked.

i have read up on your experence and will never do any fuel system work in a garage ever agian. every time i see your car it reminds me to take my time. and i cry a little inside. i recently lost an e30 vert to a small fire. i am sorry for your loss it sucks bad. but thank god you are agile and you kids weren't anywere near. how is your leg? didn't it get burned?
i have a friend that owns an exaust shop and i will cut the 3rd cat free and see if that is it. if the the jmod and flush dosent work.

i swear it feels like the torque converter is locking and unlocking repeatedly when i pull my foot out of the pedal. i have no acceleration problems. it will go when tell it to.

to best describe it is once you get to your goal speed 25,45,55,70. it does not matter what speed. but if you let it coast. when you do not have a load on the trans from the engine. it jerks. it feels like a downshift attempt. no rpm change just that hard decelleraton for .5 second over and over. hard enough that i can hear the driveline binding and unbinding.
it is killing me. i am going to baby it home tomorrow and tear it apart.

i spoke with the guy that sold me the jmod and he said he had a car that he had and it did the same thing. "my personal car" he said. he changed to merc v and jmoded it and presto chango perfection.

I only had a burn spot on the top of my foot / ankle that was the size of a dime and the other leg was cut. It needed about 3 stitches but I kept it together until it healed back. Other than that, no injuries. My 7 year old son was on the opposite end of the house and my dad was just on the other side of the wall from the garage. Everyone came out fine. I would do the job again but next time, I know to not just shut the hood and think I have it done right. That's where I messed up. I didn't check for leaks but doing what I done was useless anyway and stupid.

Does your car run good when it's cold? Mine was perfect until it got up to temp and then when I let off the gas at any speed, the car would bog down over and over but I also had acceleration issues too. Sometimes it was real jumpy but again, my third cat was stopped up.

As far as the speed sensors go, anything is possible. I have never heard of anyone having chewed up speed sensors. I think it may be possible that something else could be chewed and you just haven't found it yet. You don't have any shudder during light acceleration, so that tells me that your trans is still fine. You'll know shudder when you get it. When you do the fluid change, make sure to drain the TC because putting fresh fluid on top of burnt fluid is pretty much a waste. Also, while you're upgrading, I would go ahead and get the updated 1-2 accumulator and springs if you haven't already. That can be changed without pulling the pan off.

Keep us posted on it.

While you're in there doing the j-mod replace your TCC solenoid. I ran my Mark without the trans plugged in and without a proper signal from the TCC it locks and unlocks in a modulated fashion.

hmmm i wonder if that :q:q:q:qing mouse got to the wires that go to the tranny. i bet he did because that is exactly what it feels like. i do have the 1-2 accum and the 2-3 and also have the new springs. tcc solenoid is now on my list. i have only worked on an auto trans one time back in h.s. i rebuilt a turbo350 for shop class.

and it pulls strong all the time the only time it decides to go to funky town is when i am off the pedal. she might just wanna go fast.lol

Fix all the wires the mice snacked on.

All it takes is time.

by the way that is easyer said than done. i read that the harness in this car weighs in the neghiborhood of 100lbs. i think the mouse was just trying to help with weight reduction.:D in order to fix it all i would need to borrow fords assembly line for a few days. dont think they are cool with that though.

i bought everything for it yesterday and could not sleep last night. (like a kid at christmas i was up cleaning my garage at 4:30. i pushed the vert out. put the m8 on jackstands and changed the oil (man that oil filter SUCKS), air filter and about fell asleep under the car. went to take a nap and did not wake up until 8:30. but tomorrow is d day I will let everyone know how it went tomorrow eve

PROBLEM SOLVED

jmod did the trick while i was in there i removed the lower plate and cleaned it. there was quite a bit of sludge. i also took the tcc off and cleaned it. i gotta say i love the jmod

I can give you advice ;)

Seriously though, If you do end up getting a converter Edge seems to have a great priced one at around the $500 mark. A member here is selling a new edge one for upper $300 range.

Circle D seems to get the most respect, but at $1000 a pop I sure hope your pockets are deep to pay for it!

You guys do realize, that if your trans hasn't been serviced properly, and your fluid is dark brown, or very dirty, and you flush it, and add new trans fluid...that your transmission will probably fail...right?

Check the harness connector for the trans it's on the driver side attatched the the crossmember.

mine was clean and almost new.the little plunger they put in the dip stick tube at the factory was not there.

the only place i found any sludge was on the lower valve body plate. and obviously the magnet.
this is an argument me and my father have had for years. he thinks if it aint broke dont fix it.

the jmod was enough reason for me to give it a shot and in my case it is working perfectly i love 2nd gear now 3rd is nice as well and no more crazy t/c lock problems. it was worth the $200 to me

but if you are right and my trans fails i will pull this thread from the dead and give you the props you deserve.

Agreed I've seen a ton of sable tauras' get trans service flushes done and they come back with no engagement not too log after...

You were lucky and how I missed that a mouse chewed up some wiring, I'll never know. J-Mod is good but fresh clean fluid is probably what helped the most. I had no idea you had sludge in there. Anyway, glad to see it fixed it for you.

One question... How many quarts of fluid did you put back in to fill it?
