Opinions Needed!! Fuel filter/pump?

I have searched and i understand how to change fuel filter but i need to know if this is what causes the symptoms my car is showing. i hope it isnt the pump!!

today it started almost dieing at highway speed, i had to keep giving it gas and letting off of it quickly. It died 2/3 times. it started right back up, but then would do the same thing- i limped in to work and just left it for now.
It seems like it would get fuel for a few seconds and then not get any for a couple and repeat! Very annoying 5 mile ride.

Sounds like what happened to my 87 LSC one night on the way back from the track. Give it gas, and the car would slow down. Give it light throttle and you could keep going until it just wouldn't go any more. Shut the car off, let it sit for a few minutes to where the pump cooled off and you repeated it until you got home. I'd bet on the pump, or a SEVERELY blocked filter. Change the filter and if that doesn't work, have the fuel pressure checked to see what's going on.

Thanks-I sure hope it is the filter though.
Anyone had to replace pump? What $$$ can I expect to be looking at?

I have read that the pump can be accessed under the back seat. If this is so, then this may be a do it yourself job.

Someone posted the procedure and it sounded easy but since my car is still under warranty I haven't tackled any of the covered stuff.

the LS has a pump and a secondary pickup in the other saddle tank.

the pump is about $250 - the pickup is about $160

is a couple of hour job to do it yourself.


- honestly - we have not heard of many pumps failing.

I cranked it up again today and after about 1 minute it started to almost die. it also tripped a CEL today but I am not sure if I can get it to a shop the way it is running right now. I am glad I live walking distance from my Taekwondo Academy.
