Opinions on car purchase, non mark viii

go for it. I love the 95-97? tail lights on the aurora.

Those were nice at the time, but noticed they can have quite the problems like the cadillacs if they're not kept up..

This 01 is the newer style than that, and going with the V-6 to get away from the northstar. Gonna pass the caddy up, read too many horror stories, much like the Land Rover RR HSE's.

Thanks for the input on the caddy, guys. It seems they're worse than lincolns for maintenance. Designed for failure, service shop income. Sounds like they make more on those cars after they fall off warranty than they do when they sell 'em new.

Glad you didn't buy it. Friend of mine bought one, and its been a headache ever since. AC problems, ride control issues, vac issues, everytime he comes to town we spend half the time he's here under his hood:mad:

... That 3.5 V6 is a Northstar minus 2 cyls. Referred to as the 'shortstar.'

Out of what you listed I'd pick up the DTS. 2000 was the first year for the improved head bolt design, less likely to pop a gasket and pull the threads. Just change the coolant (use the same coolant you drain out of it) when you get it.

178k on a NorthStar? Walk away at a brisk pace.

Look at a Town Car from the same time you can probably get one for cheaper and it will be bulletproof as long as the transmission is in order.

Thanks for the input guys, ended up with an 01 aurora w 120k in really good condition for 2,800 yesterday. Guy wanted to sell one of his 3 cars so his girlfriend would have some money while he ships off for the Army on Tues. Should sell well next year..

I appreciate the inputs!!
