What's everybodys opinion on extended warranties. Normally I wouldn't even consider one, but with the LS, you just never know. I love my LS and want to keep it as long as possible. I've got a 2002 with 97,000 and have received quotes from several companies for about 1200.00 to 1500.00 with no deductible and they pay the dealer at time work is complete. This would be a 3yr or 40,000 miles. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I would get the warranty if it only costs $1500 with no deductible, the first time you take it in for something major it will pay for itself. How many miles do you put on your car every year?

I purchased the "Reserve" program with AUL http://www.aulcorp.com/ when I bought my 98. 4 years for $1200.00. The service rep I have is great. I had some diagnostics done at a Lincoln dealership which resulted in a new COP (I also had some other minor work done). The garage bill was $232.00 and I received a reimbursement check for $118.00. I wasn't sure how that broke down but I really wasn't expecting them to cover any of it. I think they covered the COP and the labor to replace it. It took about 3 weeks to get the reimbursement check.
The bill broke down like this:
Labor $133.50
Parts $85.15
Supplies/EPA $13.35
Typical overcharge for the parts and labor but, whatryagonnado when the linkin stops stinkin?
Good luck with your search.

Roll up your sleeves, check this website, buy some parts and start turning wrenches;)

Look at those extended warranties as an insurance policy. That is exactly what they are. An insurance policy against your car breaking down and costing you to repair. Like any insurance policy, you can win and you can lose. AND, like any insurance policy, if you start winning too much, the insurance company is going to give you problems. Also, keep in mind, the insurance company is not in the buisness to fix your car, they are in the business to make money.

I believe extended warranties are only to go up to 100k. I got mine 36k warranty and I bought the car with 65k so I'm assuming it's gonna get cut off at 100k instead of 101k. But mine will expire before I put the miles on most likely cuz Ive had it for 7 months and put on like 4k. I drive my 91 maxima for a lot of the in town miles.

do it. I've had my car for 6 months and the warranty is already paid for. it seems like I've gotten most of the bugs worked out now (knock on wood) so hopefully I'm done with that. But I had a warranty on my last vehicle, too (2002 F150) and it paid for itself as well. I'm not gonna buy one for every used car I ever buy but given the history of these cars I thought it was a good idea. But who knows, you might have one of the good ones, too. Like was said above, it's a risk. You might never use it. But if you don't have it and your tranny goes bad, you'll quickly wish you did have it. It's sort of peace of mind, too.

My extended is 48k or 4 yrs, $1300 with a 250 deductible. My car now has 62k on it, if I don't have to use it on well. I'm sure if I didn't purchase it my granny would of fell out of the car. Well worth it for me.

I paid 1200 for a 20K warranty. Tech Serve was the company I believe. 50 dollar deductible. It's been in for a starter, and cylinder head temp sensor. So I've gotten about 700 out of it so far.

How is a warranty going to protect your grandmother from falling out of your car?

Just kidding.

Why not go with one from Ford?

www.espfromford.com

Reasonable prices, no deductibles and all factory parts. That's what I got for my LS and I could no complain.

My advice from experience? Get a copy of the warranty, and READ EVERY SINGLE LINE.

Remember: Extended Warranties of ANY kind, are designed to NOT pay out whenever possible. That's how they make the owners of the warranties MONEY. Take in as much as possible (the cost of the actual warranty), and pay out as little as possible. Extended Warranties are NOT designed to be the friend of the owner.

Most warranties have a LOT of loopholes. Example: Some warranties dont cover "residual" damage. Meaning..lets say a hose or radiator blows. The effect of the hose or radiator blowing may also mean a bad headgasket. Guess what wont get covered. (under some extended warranties).

So...read carefully before buying.

its good i got mines and when i reached 55k 4 of the coils whent bad and needed to be replaced and it was covered under warrenty now i dont suggest getting a any extended warrenty if it is not ford ESP. i have heard horror stories about these and the good thing is that when you get service only the deductible wich in my case is 50bucks comes out your pocket none of that re-emburesment crap. if you had the cash to pay for it upfront then you dont need extended warrenty.

they go up to 125k

Is what a dealer once told me last summer

I work as a Service advisor for an Audi dealer, also have worked as an advisor for Ford, VW, Volvo. I see extended warranties all the time. Biggest things to look for,

1) Can you take the car anywhere you want?? If so does the coverage and deductible change according to where you go.

2) Will they cover the shops full labor rate?? Our labor rate is $128 and hour, a lot of extended warr. companies will only pay a set amount, say like $85.00 per hour, which leaves you the owner responsible for the difference.

3) Of course the ter/mileage of coverage and what items are covered.

4) How often a inspector would be called to go look at the damage, they will send adjusters a lot of times to inspect the car, esp on high dollar repairs, and they can take a few days to get there leaving you without a car. This is where rental car coverage comes in.

We deal with a company called

I have a 2001 LS with 57,000 miles. I purchased a warranty from warrantydirect.com after doing some research. It cost me a little more than some of the other plans, but it has paid for itself already.
$2,183 for the warranty with a $100 deductable, good until 100,000 miles or 2011, which ever comes first. I can take it to any reputable shop.
So far its been in the shop twice at the dealership.
New front swaybar, left & right steering knuckles, front struts, left & right lower ball joints, sticking thermostat, and valve cover gaskets.
Cost me $200 out of pocket so far, so I would say it was worth it.
