Hi guys

I've only had my LS for a couple months. So far love it. Was on a recent trip, and had been driving for about 10 hours. All of a sudden felt like I was running out of gas, but when I slowed down I could continue. Filled up at nearest station and carried on. Did it again as I got below half tank. Ran rest of trip filling up before below half. Right now I'm back home and running below half and all seems fine. Anybody experience this, or any ideas?

Thanks

probably the fuel pump, had the same problem with my Mystique long time ago.

others have had this happens when the pump in the tank that shoots the gas from one side to the other starts to fail

did you experince a big change in altitude? Not saying that it hasnt happend but I hav never heard of folks having this problem. I supposedly had problems with my fuel pumps but it turned out to be my REM, rear electronic module, it receive commands from the pcm to manage the sending of fuel.

Did the check engine light come on at all?

I agree. There is a pump that pumps from one side of the tank to the other (where a hump is in the center and the main fuel pump on one side). I think that either this, or the module that controls the two pumps would be the most likely culprit.

A long shot but checking is free.

I am not sure if this is the case with the LS, but some other cars I have seen/owned have a plastic fuel tank that occasionally can be "drawn up" due to vacuum in the tank.

Usually this happens on long road trips where the fuel is constantly being drained and the vacuum is not able to bleed off fast enough. At some point the vacuum sucks the tank bottom up which pulls the fuel away from the pickup. The cure and the check for this problem is to stop the car and immediately open the fuel tank. If there is a big whoosh of incoming air and occasionally a pop as the tank thumps back into shape, then this is your problem.

My chebby had this problem on long trips on occasion, usually as the weather cooled since the fuel didn't vaporize and replace the vacuum. Normally this doesn't kil the car until you are getting below say 1/4 tank or so, but then gauges are rarely accurate.

Like I said, maybe it will work, but the fix and check is free. I like free.

Good Luck,

Well I'm well below 1/2 tank and no problem. Did not get check engine or any other obvious signs. No to any signs of vacuum problem. Going in for service for other warranty item, so they will do some checks on it, for now not gonna worry about it. Thanks for the replies. Seems like a great site, I had a 91 Tbird Supercoupe and spent a lot of time on SCCOWC.com, good group, this seems to be just as friendly. Love my new car and will be here lots. Thanks again.

Got below 1/4 tank and sure enough started again. Took it in to dealer, they say problem with fuel pump(s) go back Monday to have two(?) pumps replaced. All warranty, hope it cures it.
