Yes, I'm a new LS owner, and new to this forum, and I need some good advice.
My wife and I were car shopping last Friday and she fell in love with an '01 Lincoln LS V6. Long story short: she purchased it, the car overheated that very night and it has been towed back to the dealership (Infiniti) to be diagnosed. We have 5 days to back out of the deal, what do I do?
A little more info: I didn't even realize the car was overheating before steam started billowing out from the hood while stopped at a light. The engine seemed to be at full power up to that point. I then noticed the temp guage pinned on "H" and I pulled to the side of the road (barely any power to the engine at this point) and turned off the engine. The engine bay continued to steam for another 5-10 minutes. After waiting about 15 minutes, we drove the car to the store across the street, as it was the closest place to leave it overnight. The engine was still overheated, still on "H" and barely choked its way to the lot until stalling out in the parking space.
Here's the questions: I'm very afraid that unknown damage was caused to the engine by this overheating and won't be caught or repaired by the dealership. Is it worth the risk of damage to keep the car or should we run away from this deal?
What should I require the dealership inspect/repair prior to accepting the car back?
PS: We were given an '04 Infiniti G35 coupe as a loaner 'til the LS is fixed, so it wasn't a total loss!
