Overheating on the linc

Okay, yesterday while driving home kinda out of nowhere the car would overheat with no return to regular running temperatures, now today its doing the same it just spikes up and goes into protection mode. Theres a humming when the car is off from the lower area of the radiator and yesterday there was a leak that leaked all the coolant any body knows what could be the problem

Yea that’s what I’ve gathered from my research today because chasing would be just pointless is there a buying guide somewhere tucked in here

Can you see where the antifreeze is leaking from? Front,back, left or right side of the engine? That info can kinda give some of us a idea of what area and what parts may be causing you're issues. Some guys recommend replacing everything but i didnt i found what was causing my problems and fixed them. If you don't wanna replace everything at once heres some weak points you can check. 1.Degas bottle. Take it out and check it for broke ports or cracks. These things get weak after lots and lots of heat cycles and crack. 2.Thermostat housing. Another cheaply made crappy plastic. Take the housing apart and inspect where the thermostat goes. Those black ears that hold the thermostat in place can break rendering the thermostat useless. Make sure the thermostat is opening and closing properly. Also where the thermostat housing bolts together the weight of the auxillary pump is always pulling down on the front and can cause seperation of the housing letting air into the system i solved mine by putting gasket sealer around that round gasket and tightening it back together. 3. Hose under the intake. This one sucks because it runs under the intake. It dryrots and lets coolant run down the valley of you're engine and spills out the back. You might can take a flashlight and shine it down behind the throttlebody and see if there coolant in the valley if it is that hose will have to be replaced or cut off and put back on. Please read the many,many over heating threads and no it's all degraded at this point. So if you only replace what's leaking get ready for multiple repairs trying to fix the additional leaks that are headed your way.

JoeGR who has now left the forum has dozens of posts about this. The problem is micro-cracks in all the plastic parts due to age and heat/cool cycles. It's a well known problem with the LS.

What the problem now is Ford has totally abandoned anything to do with the LS. So parts are difficult to come by.

Now you gave us zero car info? Which means we are all guessing at what's going on. There are a few Jaguar parts that you might be able to substitute for the crappy OEM plastic but that will take some study and work on your part.

You also gave zero information on if you can DIY any of the repairs? This is key to owning an aged LS!

Drove my 2005 LS for several miles without a problem. Parked the car for 20 minutes and took it out again. Went 3 blocks and boom, the car overheated. First thing to look at is the thermostat housing. The polymer plastic housing has internal ears that hold the spring loaded thermostat together. When one of the ears breaks the thermostat will not open. Buying just a new housing and trying to put in a new thermostat is a pain in the ass with its separate spring. Go to Rock Auto and buy the housing that has the thermostat already installed in it. Here is the Rock Auto part no. GATES 34725 (Standard Replacement) 192 Degree Integrated Thermostat Housing GATES 34725 (Standard Replacement)

Sorry for my absence fellas and or ladies thanks for the helpful tips after evaluating my situation it is the plastic piece that connects from the lower to the thermo housing under the intake, the rock auto info was great because i almost went to autozone you guys are definitely wizards i appreciate it

The reason for replacing everything in one shot... Is because all of those new parts will last for 70k (or more).

Why waste time and effort going back in to replace one part???

I use a box end wrench that just barely fits over the t-stat, then rotate the stat "wings" in place, in the housing You get better leverage that way.
