I'll guarantee you that it is cheaper to spray it...if your time is worth anything that is. Besides it's not going to save you that much in material either and the prep would be the same too.

Yes if your counting time invested.
Who ever recovers their time?

Painting as a hobbyist, or building Hot Rods, the fun is in the making of it, you will never recover your "time".

If I was to try this I would work with a trunk lid, get right before I moved to the shell.

I could see someone with more time then money giving this a try.

yea but it's still not a prof paint job. Gotta compare apples to apples. I can buy a gallon of enamel for $35 and shoot it out of my $25 paint gun and be done in an hour and have it look just as good.

True.

I assume you use an air compressor, so that might add a tad more to the cost. :p

In my case, I have a parts car, I have body panels off the parts car, I have LOTS of time (I'll pay myself in food and drink for my labor ;)) and I'm motivated to not spend 3500 bucks to have a professional paint my car.

So if I practice on the parts car, and I like the result, I'm both saving money (a big plus for me) and I'm having fun at my hobby.

Win win...:)

Wow, beat me to it by a few seconds....:)
