should i paint just the calipers or the calipers and caliper brackets?

which would look the best?

I have done both - paint the brackets - be very careful to not paint anything that moves or slides. The paint generally lasts a year - I clean them with Rim cleaner for painted rims.
I had my 'Birds calipers silver cad plated they have lasted 20 years now or you can powder coat a set if you really want to do it right.

i've seen the pads painted and then seen where they were removed or covered and not painted?

I have the fronts only painted red right now. I'm still not sure I like it. It doesn't really flow with the rest of my car. I may just repaint them gloss black.

i have them painted red and then the brackets are black

I painted mine with a red basecoat, then put a Lincoln Star on, applied the black over that and now have a red star on the black caliper.. I will be doing the brakes in the next 2 weeks and it should look real good then.

here you go

Did you take them off and spray them? The wife will be gone in Ireland for a week and I hope to get mine done before she gets back and bitch about it. :D

Me? Nope. Covered up the rotor and parts I didn't want paint on with a shop towel.

+1. Mine are painted black as well, I want to go back and do letters that are color matched to the car on them though. There was a company who sold stencils for them for pretty cheap but I can't remember who it was.

for the stencils go to a craft store they were only .99 cents thats how i did mine

I painted the caliper, bracket, and backing plate...looked good.
Make sure the pads are off...looks better that way.IMHO

Pete, red is too much for your car IMO, either do a black or color match? i don't think you'd find the color though but it would look clean and unique
