Check engine light came on and display read "check transmission" Had a friend scan it with a snap on scanner and it said TCC solenoid failure or lose of signal. TCC=torque converter control. The torque converter is definately locking up on the interstate properly. We cleared it and it came right back on. Transmission shifts fine. Any experience with this? I called the dealer and asked them for the part that came up in the code and he said it was part of the valve body..which didn't make much sense to me....any suggestions?

What year and engine do you have?

I have read the test/diagprocedure for the P0743 and it does result in replacing the solenoid body. Having been through four replacements I can honestly say that mine never threw any codes which would make me suspect a sensor is not reading properly or that there is an electrical problem. Plus my LS had driveability problems which you stated yours is not.

Not know the year makes it tough becasue there we problems early on with the LS early 00 to 01. So you might have a bad vehicle speed sensor, VSS. Have you had any work done under the car recently?

Car is a 2000 made 05/00. Has the 8. There is not any driveability issues that i can tell. I have driven on city streets and highways and no difference than when the lights where off. Why would u suspect a speed sensor? If one of those were bad, would a code particuliarly for that pop up?

do you notice any delay or kick when you shift to reverse? Well if there is no noticable drivability problems my next thought is what could casue a fault and that would be a sensor that measures the time and location of events. The vehicle speed sensor seems to be the most logical at this point unless there are drivability issues that are undetectable.

The year and build date seems to fit with the transmissions that typically experice the solenoid pack and valve body problem. Have you changed the O2 sensors or had a tranny flush recently or any work that would require access to the under side of the car?

Could be a loose cable or dirty connector. Judging from the pinpoint troubleshoot procedures it is either a bad connection, bad sensor or bad component. The OBDII code can only get us so far then you have to start doing a physical diagnosis.

I been surching for aswers n got nothing so far. I got a 98 sts 4.6 with coded: po440, po741. Also got abs codes: c1255,c1288, u1056. Need help. I run out of money when I lace the camshaft a week ago.
Any ideas, have someone had this problem before? thank you in advance, hope I could fix it soon.

P0440, check your gas cap. It may have failed the pressurization test, or it may just not be tight enough. This is one of the more irritating codes GM has because all it takes is not tightening the cap to set.

P0741, torque converter problem. You can start with a flush, if that doesn't do it then you'll need to have a mechanic check further into it.

C1255 indicates an ABS computer problem. C1288 indicates a steering position sensor problem. U1056 is a generic code that doesn't need to be worried about.

Like the jokers said though, you'd get better luck on a Caddy forum than a Lincoln forum. I just happen to come from the General Motors world. I can tell you that the later model Caddies, like 1995 and newer, are not the best cars to have. Caddy went super heavy on the computers, can almost only be fixed by the dealer, and are a freakin' fortune to fix. I won't even consider a Caddy due to this because I just can't afford the repairs and they are prone to break more often due to the computerization. When you get the repairs complete, were it mine, it would be immediately up for sale.

i dont know if i would go that far... an STS in good condition is still a damn nice car and a fun drive.

Until it breaks again. My dad had the two door version, an El Dorado ETC, and he had to take it in for something computerized breaking on a fairly regular basis. Each repair was 1000 to 1500 bucks at the dealer, and where he is the dealer was the only ones who were actually able to work on the thing. He finally said to hell with it and sold it. It was a very nice car, looked brand spanking new the entire time he had it. If he wants to keep his that's fine, but I would still try to get rid of it were it mine.

Ok. Finally got reedoff the check engine light n car running like a champ.. New gas cap dint work but I kep it . Turns out my fuel pump was acting ip even do the car run fine. Also my trotle body gasket gas broken n part of the maf censor plastic, I out new gasket n a maf sensor basket n the car is now back on the road strong... the check enjine light is been off for 2weeks know. thankyou guys for the help..
