mine aren't yellow but are plenty foggy, if I rub my fingers across them the clear coat flakes onto my hand

they were crystal clear when I got the car... 5 years ago

i've had good luck with gen1 headlights but I'm afraid to ruin these

any tips or ideas?

1000 grit wet sanding until you have them dull white, clean off and come across them again with 1500 grit to smooth out more. Clean off and buff them with Plastix. I really wouldn't go any lower than 800 grit for starters but I would finish them out as smooth as possible. Once buffed clear with Plastix, they'll need to be cleared.

This would be my method. Others might do things differently.

I wet sanded with 1000 grit, and polished with Plastix. Took all of 45 min.

I used 1000 grit then the 8 dollar turtle wax kit, my right side one was horrible. Came out really nice.

After wet sanding, clearcoat with SEM 21013 for uv protection.
It comes in an aerosol and will make them good as new.

Did you cure it with a UV light like it's supposed to be or just let it cure normally? I've got a can of the stuff but can't find anyone with a proper UV lamp. I'm guessing that the UV light doesn't add any durability, but it only to make it cure faster, but I don't know. Obviously having it cure in 5 minutes versus an hour would be preferable unless you're working in an industrial clean room.
