I'm buying a Porter Cable 7424 Variable Speed Polisher soon, and there are quite a few option packages they offer on autogeek.net . I don't really have any polishes at home, and I don't really have any deep scratches. What package should I get? http://www.autogeek.net/po.html.

All I have to say is be careful when you first get this. I used to detail cars and when I started I tried using one of these and it burned through the clearcoat. I believe anything that is over 2500 to 3000 rmp has the potential to burn clearcoat. To get rid of any scratches you actually have to heat up the clear and "move" it into the scratch and if you have no experience with it, its hard. The way I learned was they shop I worked for used to get hoods from a local junkyard and we would practice on them until we got real good. Just be careful with it and practice, you'll love this thing when you get used to using it, they are great.

You have to have some idea of the abrasiveness of both the pad and polish you use when using a polisher.

As for which kit to get, I would get a new one off of E-Bay for $100, then figure out which pds work best for you.

I might get the maximum shine kit, it comes with some light swirl orange cutter pads and a decent amount of product with it, seems like a good deal.

Try to get ahold of Greg @ detailedimage.com they are a vendor here. The detailing section doesn't get much hits, but on Trailvoy.com (I'm a member there) there are tons of detailing threads and he gives great explanations on products. He highly recommends the pc7424 as well. I would have one if it was cheaper.

That's what I thought too, hopefully I'm not a moron. That's one of the kits I was looking at as well. Still need a little more imput.
