Premium or Midgrade...

I run 93 in mine, every tank, every time. The extra 3 or 4 dollars isn't gonna break the bank. Tried 87 one time, just to see if there was a difference, and there was a big difference in mileage and driveability.

Depending on what the 93 prices were in Phillipsburg I would fill up Monday $60 or so dollars. Then have to fill up again Thursday so it would average $120 a week. Only place I can get 91 is Sunoco but it's only a .04 or .05 difference so I just go for 93 anyway. Used to get the 94 but they took it off the pumps now.

Made me think about buying a new car cause the gas milage savings alone would have paid for it. Wound up picking up a 4.3 Scottsdale C1500 5 speed and $80 covers me for the week now. 87 crap gas of course but still it's nice to save $40 a week in gas even tho I have to deal with no AC :(

I don't understand. The savings is like $3.50/ tank LOL And how many of you that go the cheap route on gas smoke cigarettes? :p

Tell me about it, I have plenty of 2 pack a day acquaintances that are to cheap but think cigs are more important than water :shifty:

One of these threads again? :)

Look up compression ratio. Then think about things. And if an extra $9 per month is REALLY hurting your wallet, you may want to rethink even more! (assuming 60 gallons a month, reg at 3.89, prem at 4.03; my local prices now)

On the Mark I had always used premium, with the Benz I do the same. If you want to cheat, you can use lower octane on a long highway trip and be fine, just dont gun it lots if at all. Again, it all comes down to compression ratio. It has NOTHING to do with the quality of the fuel. Except with those where premium is ethanol free.

And remember, the engine is better at listening for detonation than you are.

always ran premium in all my vehicles, and it does make a noticeable difference to those who know. and here prem is 93 octane a bigger jump than 91 from 87,89. if you have a tune for premium you will definately notice a diff. with the car i just got i ran premiumon first tank then reg on next and lost about 2 mpg and noticed the difference when i stepped on it, no detonation or anything but smoother idle also with prem. when i had my last car tuned for prem i couldnt even run mid it would spit and run like chit.
93 all day.

Some of these responses are funny. Nobody has blown or damaged an engine on any mark viii site running 87 regular. Find me one if it has happened.

Here is my experience of actually putting real miles on these cars. I had a 1993 that I drove from 23,500 miles to 250,069. At least 120,000 of those miles were on 87 regular.

So far I've driven my 98 70,000 miles. Of those miles, probably 40,000 were with regular 87.

Regular 87 will not harm the car at all. It may lose 5-hp, but you won't notice it. And yes you can floor it and drag race it on 87, it won't damage anything.

I've done many tests over the years and mileage isn't much if at all better with 93 and it only runs the quarter mile at a drag strip a tiny bit faster with 93. A better DA makes a much bigger difference than the grade of gas.

It's ok to argue with me on this point but only after you've driven Mark VIII's for a collective 320,000 miles. :)

Really if you understand the internal combustion engine then you would know that running a higher octane fuel than is needed in a car is just a waste of money. I've heard many folks with a vehicle with 8 to 1 compression say they run nothing but premium. Like they think they are doing the car a favor. Not so just wasting money. Now yes you could run reg successfully in a Mark if you can keep your foot out of the throttle as low throttle wont generate enough compression to exceed regulars limited octane. I just never wanted or could do that.

Don,

What kind of Water Meth kit are you running and how do you like it?

I got it from ROB's Tire and Auto and I'm very happy with it. Rob's a supercharged Modular specialist so I took my car over to his place so he could see my set up and had him ordered it with the right nozzles. Had it shipped to BARRY'S and they installed it. here is a link to ROB's and the products he carrys. Also here is a couple pictures of it installed in my Mark http://www.robstireandauto.com/products.html

Cool, thanks for the link.

Me! :D

The difference around here between mid and prem is about $4 a tank give or take if I let it get down to 1/8th of a tank. That's a pack of cigarettes:p I only smoke about 2 packs a week. I've had to cut down dramatically because we're so broke. We've had to cut down on a lot of things. But I have no intention of quitting smoking. Just like my wife has no intention of quitting drinking wine on the weekends:D
