Anti-abortion activist shot in front of Owosso High School

OWOSSO, Michigan -- State police at the Corunna post have confirmed a well-known anti-abortion activist was shot multiple times and killed this morning in front of Owosso High School.

The victim's identity has not yet been released but the shooting occurred around 7:30 a.m., after most students were off the buses and safely inside the building, said Owosso schools transportation supervisor Jayne Campbell.

State police also confirmed that a suspect was taken into custody about 8:15 a.m. at the suspect's home.

Owosso High School secretary Wendy Smith said the students remain in lockdown this morning and confirmed that no students were involved and all are safe with classes going on as normal. The shooting did not occur on school property, Smith said.

Meanwhile, police have completely ringed with police tape a section of North Street in front of the school.

A black car can be seen parked at the corner of North and Whitehaven streets, where a portable oxygen tank is lying in a front yard next to a large sign bearing the image of a baby and the word "Life."

Police say second apparent homicide discovered this morning in Owosso Township

OWOSSO, Michigan -- Owosso Police Chief Michael Compeau said it appears the Shiawassee County Sheriff's Department is investigating a second homicide this morning that may be related to the shooting that occurred in front of Owosso High School.

State police confirmed the second apparent homicide was at or near Fuoss Gravel Pit on Busha Road near M-21 in Owosso Township.

Employees at the gravel pit refused to comment.

Members of the state police crime lab are on their way to Shiawassee County right now, and will be looking at whether the two crimes are indeed linked.

Compeau will hold a press conference at 11:30 a.m. at the Owosso police department to provide more details.

Shooting someone who fights for the lives of the defenseless. God save our country.

Was the person shot because they opposed abortion, or was he shot for something else?

Media silence on this story too....
Perhaps if he ran a late-term abortion factory they'd have been more interested.

There was a pro-lifer who was pound into bloody pulp when he was assaulted by a group of rowdy pro-choicers last spring here in my hometown. The man then died in the hospital.

That story made our local news. But it didn't become national news. Is that media silence too? Were they covering up the story as part of their leftist conspiracy? ABC, CBS, and NBC all ignored the incident. They deemed the fact that a man was beat to death not 'national news' and that's all that happened here. I could care less if a man in Michigain got shot, and the same is true for many Americans. That's why the MSM is glossing over this story, because it largely is not a story.

Another post by luxuryrules, about luxuryrules.

I didn't know that.
Do you think it would have been news if a pro-choice advocate was beaten to death?
It certainly would have been reported.

Could you have cared less when an abortion doctor was killed in Kansas earlier this year?

Similarly, no. Doesn't need to be national news. I see what you're getting at, though.

And in case that was too subtle for anyone else who wants to join the conversation, I was making a reference to the tone and relentless, wall to wall, coverage of the murder of factory late term abortion doctor, George Tiller. It clearly demonstrates the double standard in the national MSM.

If one isn't a story, why is the other front page news?

And the "local story" you mentioned was news to me and quite unsettling. Do you have any additional information so that I can look it up?

Because of the double standard you just referenced. You answered your own question here, mate.

I read about it in our local paper (the Patriot News) and their website is www.pennlive.com. Not sure what they have in terms of archives, but look around March-ish. Wouldn't surprise me if it can't be found, because since it was a pro-lifer that died the media won't be very worried about making it available :)
The basics were pretty similar: the guy lived just outside the city and I drive by his place all the time, he always had those posters up of dead babies and whatnot. He had a habit of turning up at local political events with his signs, and at one of them he just came into the wrong group of kids who disagreed with him. IIRC they prosecuted three guys in their early 20s for manslaughter after it all went down. The kids instigated the fight and picked on him, it was a blatant act of aggression on their part.

EDIT: while you're on there you can have a quick read about our wonderful Democratic governor and his failure to pass a budget that is 76 days late... and yes the media is having a field day using that budget fiasco to turn him and the Dems into a political punching bag.

weighing in

Its OK for pro-life :q:q:q:q:q:q:qs to shoot a doc that does legal abortions?
But its a terrible cime when pro-choice :q:q:q:q:q:q:qs kill someone that's pro-life?
Bull:q:q:q:q on everybody that take their views to this extreme.
If we all mind our own business and take care of our own lives and stop dictating morality to others we'd all be better off- geez, what a concept- freedom to live our lives as we wish under the constitution. Keep your :q:q:q:qing nose out of other peoples' lives.

There is no evidence yet that Harlan Drake (Pouillon's suspected killer) was "pro-choice".........

http://www.truecrimereport.com/2009/09/was_pro-life_activist_james_l.php

UPDATE VI: The family of accused murderer Harlan Drake issued a statement today saying he didn't gun down James Pouillon for his abortion beliefs. Rather, it seems Drake was suffering from mental problem like depression and was having troubles with his medications.

The family said the slayings were not meant as revenge or part of the political statement. The described Drake as "a gentle giant, who has no history of violence and no criminal history whatsoever... We do not feel these tragic killings were premeditated, a political statement regarding pro life or pro abortion factions, or out of a grudge."

Given the fact Drake killed another person TOTALLY UNRELATED to the abortion issue the same day on the same "rampage" and had a 3rd victim picked out (a realator) also totally unrelated to the abortion issue, makes it very difficult to accurately and honestly paint Pouillon's killing as a politically motivated "hate crime" comitted by a "pro-choicer" against a "pro-lifer". That is of course unless you have difficulty facing facts, getting a grip on reality and have a dishonest habit of building strawmen arguments.

But you have a point for exposing their hypocracy.
