Pro Street Mark VIII

I never knew that SBF's and BBF's were way more expensive to buy / build than the SBC's / BBC's. Any reason for that? In the past, I'd always just assumed that the Chevy engines were chosen by hotrodders because they must be better. Did Ford just not make enough engines to be cheap to buy then? Anything 'better' about the Ford's over the Chevy's?

I think it has something to do with the fact that you could train a monkey to build a SBC. :p

Stock for stock the bbc and sbc heads flow better making them easy to build.
When the fox body mustang came out the after market exploded making it afordable to build a sbf.
Hemihed426 is correct building a bbc is still cheaper for a all out race motor.
But with that being said...I would never put one in a ford.
As far as hotrods go....
The first hotrod pops built was a 37 ford they had a kit that would mate a sbc to a standard trans that was behind a flathead ford stock.
The sbc is shorter making a better fit in the small confines of the engine bay.
Even with that fitting in a radiator in that would cool it was a near impossible task.
Also the sbc would just destory the stock ford trans, not to even mention how bad the brakes were.
This would be pre-hydraulic brakes.
My pops used to call hydraulic brakes juice brakes :)

Well ive read thru the responses and it looks like its a 50/50 tie on whether to go with BBF or BBC. I would really like to shove a 8-71 blown BBF in it to be true but with that the wallets only so big. Thats why im leaning towards the 8-71 blown BBC. And the fact that parts are cheaper and easier to find. The way i see it is, hey, its only one part of the car but the rest of it is ALL Lincoln. Ive got good ole dad to do the back half and tubing, the mechanic at work will help with the big block fiting in the car, paint and body i can do, and the rest is a piece of cake. The one question that comes to mind is what to use for front suspension and steering? What will work for suspension in a Mark 8 to hold up a big block? With a big block, will the stock steering work or do i have to find something else to use? Keep it going guys, you are all a huge help!!

Stock front end will work fine. Of course you will have switch over to coils for best results to support the weight.

Why don't you just do the sbc? Lighter weight, smaller, and you can get 400 hp cheap and 600+ if you need too,1000tt if you have extra money laying around. Still getting over 20mpg too. If big blocks are heavier, get much lower mpg, and make the same horsepower, and are harder to fit, why go big block? Just curious. What numbers are you looking to get? Whats the budget? Anything can be done with time and money, how much do you have?

Big blocks can make waaay more than a small block can dream of making. If small blocks made the same power, big blocks would have never been.

I have one of their kits under my T/A.

Im going with the big block because of the power i want to put out, around 900hp at least, and they are selling really cheap right now. And to top it off, whens the last time anybodys ever seen a big block in a lincoln mark 8? Im daring to be different on this project...any objections?

I have a brand new 502BBC just waiting for me to find it a home!

Even have a Accel Super Ram DFI setup on it :D

Hope this makes you wanna hit the garage rolling.:D

2002wrxsti Why are the exhaust manifolds on backwards on that 502

Cause I just threw em on to cover the ports, so I didn't really care what direction they where facing.

Seems to have bit me in the ass tho cause I have it on Craigslist and I can't tell you how many tools keep telling me they would buy it if it wasn't a boat motor

Mine is set up got forced induction though as it is 8.5 to 1 JE pistons with nice big square port heads.

Way to heavy and I would really hate to change the plugs once everything is in the car. My main plan was a multi turbo setup for this engine and you know that injector would be sticking out of the hood big time

I really gotta get my butt in gear and start getting the spare engine ready to go in. That way I can rebuild the original engine to my specks for lil twin turbo's
