i have a 2001 lincoln ls with 116,000 miles on it and has been a great car. the problem that im experiencing is that it will chug and misfire real bad inbetween 40-50 mph and rough idle. Now the part that is frustrating i just spent 800 dollars to have all coils and sparks replaced. Other issue that auto body shops are running into is that they cannot get a diagnostic test to work on my car for some reason it wont read at all. Do you think there is a chance it is fuel injectors or gasket?

it sounds like my old problem (and plenty others). take it back to the shop because its probably a coil again. the 40-50 chug is usually the giveaway

I was having the same problem. I wound up taking the car to the dealership and they replaced the throttle position sensor. So far that seems to be the fix.

Sure sounds like a COP issue still.

Nice to see someone from Iowa. I am from Council Bluffs and went to college not far from you in Ames.

If you have a check engine light, it may indicate which COP to replace, otherwise you might need to go to the dealership and pay a diagnostic fee and possibly have them stress tested.

Also, if there was any oil on the old COP's/plugs... you need Valve Cover Gaskets. If it had oil, you may just be replacing COP's over and over. Get VCG's installed if there was oil.

Only certain specific diagnostic tools can read the LS. I am sure someone like joegr will chime in on which type is required. You might find it by looking in other threads. Bottom line, they need a better diagnostic tool.

Get a better diagnostic tester, check for oil, install VCG's if oil found, replace COP(s).

Take note of all the advices above. If everything looks good and still no check engine light, the next time you have that problem at 40-50mph, try slamming on the acceleration to through a code while your OBDII code reader is monitoring pending codes. Although your check engine light won't light, your code reader will show a temporary pending code.

I am really sorry to hear that, didn't know that school still existed or at least their football team. They will get a beat down this weekend:)

Not sure why other shops are having a hard time reading your codes, Autozone is able to. Did they clean out any oil? Have you had your valve cover gaskets changed? Your new coils may be shot if there is oil in the wells. Pull them out and see if you see any oil in there.

I agree, I could never get into their sport teams, regardless of who they play! Go Hawkeyes! ;)
