Programming spare key with FORScan

I bought a spare Strattec key, had it cut, and started the procedure to erase and program, which requires two PATS keys ( original + the new key ) I tried the procedure to the letter of turning off the 1st key, waiting 10 seconds, turning it back on, waiting longer than 3 seconds, putting the 2nd key in within 5 seconds of removing the 1st key, etc but they don't program and now worse, my original key was erased as well and won't work. Did I purchase the right key ?

The spare key I bought was listed as: 1996 - 2006 Ford Logo OEM PATS Transponder Chip Key H72 597602 011-R0221

Now thinking maybe it's not a compatible key and this is throwing the process off.

I now see the Lincoln LS specific key linked below that shows a different part number. Anyone have a clue if this is my issue?

I was using this procedure and software.

The 1st gen uses PATS key types 5 and 6. The 2nd gen uses PATS key types 12 and 13.

I didn't do enough homework on the key types. Thought a simple 1998-2004 key would do. I ordered the key in the 2nd link that is for a Gen 1 LS and will try that. If it fails, then I'll just be out $40 and will have to pay a locksmith to come program me two keys. Trying to see if I can do this myself 1st and save $$. Thanks

My 97 Taurus and 02 LS keys look identical and have the same-looking glass pill type transponder, but they're incompatible with each other. The Taurus is a 4C something chip while the gen 1 LS is a 4D ID60 or 4D60 I think. Searching ebay for "4c ford transponder" consistently pulls up the R0221 number

To update, the key below worked for my 2000 LS V8. I had it cut today and the FORScan procedure went flawless 1st time and both the original and new spare start the car. This was starting with just one key doing the erase and program option with that software and a laptop. Once two keys are programmed you can program more just using a process of the cycling both keys on to off and inserting the 3rd and cycling to ON. A link to the adapter used as well.
