I’m trying to replace the PSP sensor and it’s my first time replacing it. I want to do it from the top of the engine and not sure how or what to do. I understand that I’ll have to remove the air box and possibly the reservoir. I can’t find any walkthroughs or videos. Will I have to remove the fluid in the reservoir? Any help in a write up or walkthrough will help a lot.

00 V8 3.9L

The fluid is going to pour out. If you empty the reservoir, it will make it less messy.
The manual says to remove the high pressure hose to get to it. (gen 2 are all on the high pressure hose, I think. I don't know for gen 1)

Thanks. So I’ll remove the air box, drain the reservoir, and pull the high pressure hose (the big one) to make room to get to the sensor. You wouldn’t know the size socket needed for the replacement? Also, would it be best to just remove or flush the system? The fluid looks pretty reddish that’s in the reservoir now

The reason to remove the high pressure hose (the low pressure one is a larger diameter) on the gen 2 is that the pressure sensor is mounted to the middle of the hose. If your sensor is mounted to the pump instead, then removing the high pressure hose may not help. Do note that there is a Teflon seal that has to be replaced if you remove the hose, and a special tool (small plastic cone) is needed to install the seal.

So I could just drain the fluid in the reservoir, move the hose and not disconnect the high pressure hose?

I did mine (02 V8) from the top after removing the intake tube I think and unbolting the reservoir. It was difficult to get it to turn the first couple degrees with all the metal parts in the way, but I turned the socket by hand once it was free. I didn't deal with draining the reservoir because the failed sensor already did that for me
