Looking to get an Alpine MRP-M2000 (2000w rms @ 2ohms) with 2 12" subs (1000w rms @ 2 ohms each). Is this gonna be too much for the stock alternator?

most likely. especially on those big bass hits that'll probably dim your headlights. a HO alternator really isn't too expensive. or get a capacitor..but those aren't really recommended as it's just a temporary solution to a bigger problem..

but then again, if you keep your gain down on the amp you may be alright...

More than likely you are going to need to upgrade to a capacitor and or an alternator. There will be some strain on the electrical system with that the amp you are talking about. When I replaced my alternator, I went with an higher output, (it wasn't much) but helped. I can't remember what the stock alternator is rated at though. I'm sure you can find out online somewhere.

I would just do the big 3 upgrade and a deep cycle high cca battery.

The stock alt is 110 amp...NAPA just had a sale on 130 amp ones for $179 plus core. Works great in my 2000 LS V8.

short answer, yes.

BUT that amp is not 1 ohm stable, you you will not be able to run those subs in parallel, so you will have to run them in series, and then you will be running the amp at a much lower output.

well 2000W / 14.4V = a tad less then 139A for the amp alone(assuming that the amp is 100% efficient, which we all know that its not even close to that and thats why the amp is fused at 180 amps), so that extra 20 amps isn't going to make the least bit of difference.

no battery or capacitor will be able to make magic happen to cover that difference

even at the 4 ohms your going to be running that amp(with those subs), its still going to need well over 100 amps

I wasn't too worried...damn stock stereo plays loud enough for me! LOL! But the 130 A alt and new battery are working great for me.
