alright im back after 5 days without power. damn 5 whole days without LVC, SUCKED. i missed the chicago meet, cause of the weather. How was it?

Anyway my post is about a race in the makings. my buddy just bought a 05 nissan maxima, it has a 3.5L v6, with (he says 262 hp) only 23000 miles. pretty quick when he drove me around.
Now i have a 00 ls8, with 58000 miles. only mods are, cut air box, removed resonators, and 20s (to slow it down)
Now my ? is he got this and challenged me to race down the highway (not sure how far, but from stop). he said he would give me his car if i beat him. what should i do. i dont think i would take his car jsut for the fact its wrong. so should i take the race. and whats the comparison between our cars? :Beer
 
As long as you don't have to give up yours if you lose, then why not. Unfortunately, you probably will lose. Those Maximas are pretty quick. You never know. He might lose it in the torque-steer and run off the road though. :D
 
on the maxima forums - claiming stock 05 times of 14.6 - 14.8 which will crush your 15.7......

the issue is more of weight than hp
 
If i'm not mistaken those cars are 265HP stock with 6 speed manuals and run a mid to slight high 14 second time. He would likely win having the advantage of the manual. I guess it would also depend on what is considered winning on the highway and how far away the finish line is ?

I'd never race for slips but if you try this, let us know! :D
 
Yea, those fwd's have almost no drivetrain hp loss, but who cares just race for fun, I hate altimas, you see them on every corner!

Hurry up and slap on a cat-back exhaust, put the stock wheels back on, get the full stainless steel tube CAI from ken, order the STC flasher from fordpartsnetwork.com and run a wild tune, then to top it off talk to some of the guys here about :nxsmile and then race him. sure you'll have spent a few K on all that but you can sell his POS maxima to cover it and have a bunch of extra $$$ left over. think of it as an ivestment. the look on his face would be worth it lol. just an idea :Beer
 
yeah id have to give him the ls if i lose. hes got the auto-v6. im not sure if i got the balls to do it, and risk everything ive invested into the ls.
i know soooo many people have asked this, but whats (around) is the HP after u put on a kkm (not CAI) just the cone. im thinking either this week or next ill be getting that, after i take the ls into the shop. have a loud ticking noise, im overdue on an oil change, could that cause it.
 
The Maximas are quick off the line. The LS doesnt have the jump to get you off the line as fast.I raced one when my car was bone stock and I got spanked badly with my 02 V8.
 
right - to drop a full second off your time..... you would have to loose about 800 pounds - or - gain about 70hp.

all the bolt-ons... intake, exhaust, XCal, ...etc - still will not add up to 70hp
 
you got me sad thinking a maxima could kick a lincolns ass that not right man
 
OK I have another question what about a 02 maxima SE vs. a 02 LS8 w/sports package who would win?? Is it still the same thing? :L

The sport is a hair quicker than the non-sport because of the stiffer suspension, but it would be the same outcome.

Even if the maxima is faster, the LS has much more class, and looks a whole lot better. It doesn't matter if you lose as long as you look good doing so.

Sh!t I would race him still I wouldnt bet my car but I would still bet $50 on it, there are a lot of variables in racing I would say one thing you would have to have your car tuned and moded pretty darn good. Dont do it unless you have the intake, exhaust, and SCT Flasher on it.

Right! And not that expensive! Just install it discreetly and let it fly! He will be one very surprised SOB when he sees you motor past...

hmm a debate ok....i dont know if lincoln is slower than a jag , but those maximas they suck.....265hp, ok japanese hp with a tq way down there....since LS is using Jags engine (little delitered .1L) it should run almost like a jag....couple of months ago i was going to poconos from NYC and an 03 BMW m3 came up to me....4 tries from 80 to 142mph(cut out fuel) first he pulled of a little, second i pulled same as he did first , and rest 2 head to head to 142, then he was pulling out once i cut out at 142.....so please stop comapring some bull:q:q:q:q maxima to the european breed of horses...JAPS suck...you call it a lexus, i call it a toyota in a mini skirt.... i say take the race on and you should smoke that :q:q:q:q

Stock for stock...he will lose. Forget about all the BS you just spewed about European, American and Japenese horsepower...look at the track times. And last I heard, hp was hp no matter what country it's generated. And the LS isn't exactly what I would call a torque monster either...and I know for a fact the Nissan weighs a BUNCH less.

If this guy is serious about running for pink slips, I would be very careful about what I told him as far as being able to "smoke" him. It just ain't gonna happen that way.
 
Stock smock who cares race for a $50 spot and tell us what happened. I think we could run with one of those if not bet it. Sorry but I agree with ArdenJag I would do it to it itsnotmydaddys!! I just love to prove those numbers on paper all wrong.

im gonna try to set it up this weekend, prolly tom. night, ill let u know, i gotta get some batteries for the radar b4 i do it
