Radar detector display in mirror? Is this possible?

I must say thats damn impressive. I would really like to have that but couldn't justify the price. I also can't justify the price of a good radar either. I'm not 100% it would fully function with having tint on the windshield.

Anyone know about the effects of the tint? How about a cheaper way to do this.

I have tint on my windshield and it doesn't affect my radar detector at all. It has saved my a$$ plenty of times.

Not affected by tint.....................

Radar waves are not affected by tint unless it is true metalic tint. Laser on the other hand has been known to not read correctly against reflective tint used on flat side windows. But most states where they use Laser have front license plates because it is a flat surface. But there are products available to defeat the laser detectors as well as the speed cams.

From a guy who's spent plenty of time behind a radar gun:

Detectors are a joke. The only thing they are going to, even remotely, warn you about is a cop whose running his radar constantly. Most of the time you just do a "burst check" (quick activation of RF, less than two seconds) and by then you are too close and too fast to do anything about it.

Cops tend to leave the fixed radar units in the patrol vehicle on for long periods but they are usually just warning people or being obvious about checking for speeders. You have to realize that RF waves are travelling at 670,616,629 miles per hour. So basically the first reading of your speed has been recieved by the radar gun before your brain even had the chance to identify the little beep given off by your $300 noise maker.

Chances are, of all the times that a detector has "saved" people, it more than likely just warned them of a cop who didn't feel like issuing a citation anyway.

Can anyone lookup the manufactuer and part number of the rear view mirror? Or point me to where I can find them? Thanks!

Contact Torrie with Team Ford at 800-791-6436. He can get those mirrors much cheaper than anyone else.

Was there a shake-up? Last I knew, Torrie was a FastPartsNetwork, and Bill Jenkins was at Team Ford... ;)

You'll also have to buy a Vanlentine Detector, and looks like the remote mount module.

I have mine sitting in the dashboard, nice and low. I've noticed that I always had people using me as a rabbit with my detector lit up above the mirror.

As far as what freefaller said, it's true, but the Valentine One is pretty effing sensitive. Out here, it will pick up a State trooper's radar gun from a good mile and a half away, when they are sitting and running speed traps.

That's true if the detector went off because he painted you. If, however, it goes off because he painted some schmuck up ahead of you, maybe around a curve, it'll give you warning that's useful. Those waves are moving at the speed of light, but when they hit a car, they bounce in all directions, not just back at the source.

That's why it's good to have a rabbit. :D

I'll tell you what else is true Sooner....I have a relative who is a state trooper. He told me that even though the radar paints the car quickly...and displays the speed...it takes a bit for it to "lock" that speed and if you deccelerate quickly, the unit cannot lock your speed. And if they can't lock it, they can't write it. That was how it was in his state.

lol@this guy, must be a cop trying to scare people, anyway...i have personally witnessed radar detectors working time after time, a few months back my friend was speeding, detector went off...he slowed down, the cop pulled over the person behind us...but yeah, obviously he was just looking to scare people? your lil theory is flawed copper.

Bill Jenkins, Team Ford, 800-791-6436.

These are MSRP prices and NOT the LVC discounted ones.

I usually consider the radar detector of only being able to forwarn me that I am about to get a ticket.

Whats funny, I usually see the cop long before I get a little Beep - so I dont even bother having the detector anymore.

I have an Escort 8500 X50 and it'll pick up anything. Plus where I am they have to have the radars on, there is alot of cars. You do know that for the lasers, the valentine has a jammer and it spits out random numbers to the laser jamming it up to about 300 feet...I came over a hill going 15 over and a cop was running laser, but I saw him first >=). Once that laser goes off though, without a jammer, you're toast.

I have seen many people get pulled over with radar detectors, but they are those useless $30.00 ones at walmart. These radar detectors are very advanced, and when the troopers find a new technology, so will Escort and the other top brands.

I've been running one of those cheap Walmart $39 Cobra detectors for 5 years with great success. I NEVER go more than 10 over on the highways, anything more with cars around and you're being very dangerous to others.

Detroit Michigan traffic can move at 90mph at times on the outskirt areas and it will blow your mind if you're not used to it.

Being keenly aware of other traffic, hidden spots for cops and always paying attention if you're gonna speed gamble. But for $40 you can play for a long time and save yourself some tickets if you're not an idiot.

You dont need a radar detector for your "speeding" Mrs. Daisy, go 10 mph over in cali and you will probably get some choice words by my grandma for plugging up the fast lane. 10 over, are you kidding?

I've been running a V1 for years. In my first LS and in this one, I actually have the V1 velcroed on the back deck, controls facing the rear of the car. I have it mounted just ahead, and slightly offset from the 3rd brake light. I have a "extra" 3rd brake lite cover sitting over the V1 for a bit of anti-theft stealth. The cover along with the darkly tinted rear window almost makes it invisible. It blends in with the true 3rd brake lite cover, and the seat belt anchor covers. I drilled a hole in the back deck to run the RJ11 cord through, and purchased the optional remote console from Valentine. the remote console is in the upper left corner of my windshield. I placed in inline power button just below the trunk release/fuel tank release buttons.

I use it often, and it works just fine in its location. No difference in distance detection

I HAVE THE ESCORT X50 BEST R-D I HAVE OWNED
USE TO HAVE A COBRA THING WAS A JOKE NEXT TO THIS.
SAVES ME FEW TIMES EVERYDAY AND NEVER BEEN PULLED OVER FOR SPEEDING
