Ok so I removed the 36mm crush nut and now I can't get the axle to break loose. Yes I did try a sledge hammer , any suggestions please.

Put the nut back on the axle reversed, just a few threads so you don't mushroom the end. Spray the splines with some PB blaster or Aerokroil and use a bigger hammer..or a bigger arm, whichever applies

You'll need a puller. 3 jaw or one that attaches to the studs with you lugs

This thing is the ****. I think you can rent one for free at autozone

Or there's that too. My method always works for me

Yeh, that looks like a good idea - if you can't beat it, screw it! :shifty:

OK I tried a puller from autozone, broke the puller, got a bigger hammer now the head is mushroomed, it wont budge, what now?

Wasn't there some guy on here had same problem? Thought he had to pull the knuckle with axle stuck in it and replaced it with other used one.

I thought about removing all 3 knuckle bolts, but as of now only one is removed.

Have you not even broken it loose yet... how did you even manage to hit it with the nut on it to mushroom it?

so like, you have it out of the pumpkin or have the spindle unbolted right? other wise you're just gonna push it into the pumpkin and its not going anywhere.

Why not recap what you are trying to accomplish?

You can also break it loose by using an air chisel. A guy showed me this. He just put a pointed tool in his air chisel/hammer, put the tip in the end of the halfshaft, and then pulled the trigger. It worked real well.

For ones that are not rusted together yes. This one is stuck good if a 20lb won't break it free.

Whenever I hit a situation like this, I could use that crank puller/press tool you have pictured, crank it down tight enough so there is a lot of pressure (but not tight enough to break it), then whack it with a heavy hammer while the pressure is applied.

That always works with anything (works good with ball joints too) and is the best solution short of cutting it all off with a cutting torch.

Ok so it's for sure rusted in there, decided to leave it in there and I popped the axle loose and took out everything as one with the knuckle. I will have to find another one at the scrap yard. Also what I was trying to accomplish was to take out the pumpkin which I did on Sunday.
