rear brakes

about month or 2 ago i noticed the anti lock and the brake lights coming on when i started the car after less than 30 secs they would go out.
than yesterday i heard the brakes grinding in the right side front. so this morning i went to have them changed . roters where ok, no problem changing from pads. but both rear calipers the pistons wonlt compress to put the new pads on both sides are this way. any ideas why??
and would a set of calipers for a 1990 fit a 1988 mark
 
as far as i can till its not the abs. the person that i had do my brakes said the piston in the caliper is froze.
ok i found a few other thread on here that say that the read calipers screw in not push in like the front calipers. he used a c clamp to get the front pistons in which only took like 1-2 mins each whell but when he tried this on the back it didnlt work.
so im gussing he thou they where frozen because they screw in not push in like the front .
 
If the ABS light is on, then there is an issue with the ABS system. Did you read through the entire article?

Your brake man either doesn't know his stuff or he forgot that the rears DO NOT compress as do the frronts. One must use a special tool to turn them in. Believe I'd try anothe brake man --unless he works for free! :D

when i start the car both lights come on breifly than go out at the same time.
im going this weekend and geting the rear pads but on
and the tool is it the regualr caliper tool or it diffrent cause i've heard
that the only car that u have to turn the nut and the compress the piston is the marks and i heard a few other fords

No nut to turn! You turn the piston. My local parts store has a tool to turn the piston that is "universal", ie. it fits the Mark VII and 5 other vehicles.

Tool is a standard tool. My '00 Mustang has the same set up as the MARK.

Autostone (Auotzone) has the tool kit. they make you buy it $59 then you can get your money back if you return it undamaged.

You must remove the mast cyl cap otherwise it will never compress- there is no place to push the fluid - watch for overflow. Brake fluid is a fantastic paint remover!
 
Has anyone used the FRANKLIN PRODUCTS tool shown here on the left:

Looks sturdy enough and has a hexhead for ratchet use.
 
the funny thing is that back in high school i took automotive class and we had a markVII that ford gave to the tech center maybe i should have paid attention those 2 years more lol.

i just bought my brothers mark V diamond jubile also
if any one knows of a good body shop in michigan it needs a dent pulled
and more than likly i'll have the whole car repainted.
