Rear End Gear Question

FWIW, since about 2000 all of the 8.8 diffs that Ford has installed, can be used for both applications. So, unless you're getting something older than that, you'll be fine.

Man, such a heated debate on the subject. :shifty: Well I will be doing my weekly JYD run this weekend, and I know where there is a Tbird SC, so would it get the locker from the SC, then get the gears from the Explorer? Or can I get the whole damn thing from the Explorer?

EXPLORER'S HAVE 31 SPLINE AXLES, THEY ARE 8.8'S (leave the IRS EX's alone), AND YOU CAN GET GEARS AS DEEP AS 4.10'S OUT OF THEM, BUT THE CARRIERS WILL NOT WORK!!!

Not that I would know anything about this but.........

Sorry for the caps, but I wasn't going to read all the stuff above, just pointing the facts, thankyouverymuch :)

Jeff

P.S. GMAN I did get your PM, I'm a little swamped bare with me.

I found a SC. I'm going tomorrow to extract the trac lok. Just need to get gears now. What vehicles can I look for to get gears from?

Are we there yet?

G-Man, to summerize:

Trac-Lok: Mustang, Cobra (93-01), T-Bird SC
Gears: Explorer (non-IRS), any Mustang with an 8.8 (no stock 3.73 or 4.10s though), F-150 with an 8.8 (not sure about 04+), Expiditions with the 8.8 too.
