the black looks wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better leave it like that. etching primer works pretty nice to paint the trim like he did. you can scuff it with steel wool then spray etching primer on it.

^^^^^ yep. etching primer.scuff the metal up with steel wool or 320 grit sand paper,you can buy etching primer in a spray can.i would recommend letting the etching primer dry for a couple of days before painting over it.
