Rear Speakers Whinning with RPM's

Well I did my search but didn't find my answer.

My rear speakers will "whine" almost annoyingly "drone" with the rise and fall of the RPM's. It's SO bad that I had to turn off the radio. All media's whine (CD, Radio, Tape).

Well an audio guy told me I have a loose ground wire, or to replace my spark plugs.

So I actually resorted to pulling the plug harness from the rear speaker amp, if this is what it is?

AND the "whine" STOPPED. So do I have a bad amp?

And ideas here or what to look for?

i would say try throwin a ground loop converter in.. ... does the noise get louder when you rev? does it stop when parked..?? think its enging noise? are you running after market head unit?

Yes the noise does get louder with the rev's of the engine. Quieter when parked, but still noticeable.

All audio components are stock.

thats odd sounds like a ground issue, check the ground on that amp.. it seems to be the problem... I woudl hate for you to spend 20 bucks on a problem that could be fixed.... or try a local car audio shop.. tell them whats goin gon and askthem to point you in the right direction.. i'm almost positive its a bad ground...probably a loose connection....
Typically when you install aftermarket car audio.... amp/subs/ radio you sometimes get engine noise through the speakers this is solved mostly by adding a ground loop converter.. which is 20 bucks or so if that..

If its a stock system you're pretty much f***ed. If it was a loose ground then the system would turn on and off.

yea that is true.. you could hit a bump.. it would shut off... hit another turn on... did you try to install something and the power wire hit the frame of the car somewhere.how long has this been happening?? . a friend had that happen to a car of his before... he was dumb and tried to make a ground by the tail light.. didnt work too well

Yeah, did you try and install something and maybe damage some other wires? If you damaged the rca's, which are for the most part twisted wires, they could be picking up interference off any other power wire that is running next to it.

ok i just called a budy over at a local car audio.. he said your pickingup some interference from a signal line.... you stated that when you unplug the amp the noise goes away.. his reply ... bad amp..
has he had anything done under the hood? my response..... nothing that i know of...
could it be a bad ground.... "very likely, try cleaning all the connections, possibly moving that ground to a diff spot on the frame... "add ground straps"
he even asked if a pos wire hit the frame.. he said nothing to do with the sparkplugs...

I guess the big question is did you recently have your car serviced?

If a positive hot wire touched the frame a fuse should blow. Although I've seen amps fry without any fuses blowing.

With stock systems its so hard to tell where the problem is comming from, and if you do find the problem, the solution is never simple. It probably is just a nicked wire somewhere in the car that is picking up the interference.
Well, just got the LS about two months ago. Before I had a Volvo, VERY old, 88' or 89', and had three 12's, 2 channel 1000 watt amp, with each channel that can go down to .5 ohms (I love that amp), Pioneer tape deck with the separate 6 disc changer in the glove box, 10 band Kenwood eq (don't really remember how many bands, just used separate two bands for the subs), 1 farad cap, 5.25 pioneers in the doors, and thats about it. Everything is pretty old because I put in in there about my sophmore year in highschool, about 1997 (damn I feel old!).

Can't wait to get started on the LS!

if you unplug the amp, the speakers have no signal. So it would make sense that if he unplugged the amp the sound would go away..........of course it would go away. Where else did you think the whining was coming from?

Also.......it wouldn't be changing spark plugs........it would be the wires. However, the LS doesn't have spark plug wires. It is probably an amp going on its way out. ebay had a few stock LS amps up for bidding.

Well I have a STOCK car and STOCK audio units.

I plugged the AMP back in tonight and it hasn't whinned at all. So I'm thinking it's a ground wire. I will take a look at the COPPER wire looped/weaved wiring and see if something is touching or needs to be insulated.

I hope to replicate the problem tomorrow. I did go to Radio Shack today and the Ground Loop they had will not simply PLUG into the factory amp with it's connectors.

just a thought, but have you tried measuring the resistance of the ground wire to the frame of the car?
