Rear sport shocks fot my 2nd gen

So I found a sent of Front AST 214's for my 03 v8 w/ "special" suspension but of course I cannot find the rears.

I've read a butt load of threads but cant seem to put my finger on the current thinking around what to do about them? Can anyone point me to a suitable replacement since I cannot find the motorcrafts?

I have 153K miles on the car and its honestly near perfect still except for the suspension and some trans weirdness. I figure I'll keep this car at least another 100K if I can work out these details.

Also want to mention that I bought the fronts from Ganley Lincoln in OH and they were pretty awesome...Didn't rape me on the cost and were pretty friendly.

From what I have read the KYB's are much softer then stock. What has your experience been? I really enjoy throwing this thing around and I am worried about going backwards in the in the performance department.

These look to be rears. Not sure if they are "special" suspension specs. 2006 model (which is Gen 2 like yours)

There is a thread somewhere that discussed the numbers for special, standard, and Euros (unavailable anymore).
 
My car is lowered... I noticed ZERO difference in terms of stiffness (no homo) between KYB and OEM. But perhaps that is because it rides stiff because its on the effing ground... idk

Just curious...Are you lowered with aftermarket springs or by cutting the stockers?

I would image very stiff springs could easily mask the effectiveness of the shock but at the same time... I have a full hotchkis suspension on my Lightning which includes 1000 pound front coil springs and I can make it go from bouncy to kidney damaging with my adjustable QA1's
 
I have Eibachs on all 4 corners. There are several shops near me that claim to cut stock springs just as well, but I don't know how well I trust that.

not siying this is the case with you, but one thing a lot of people that say they don't notice a difference don't take into consideration is that the reason that they replaced their shocks is probably because they were worn out and not doing their job anymore... so brand new shocks from company X feels the same as an old work out OEM shock. I have a very strong feeling that if you found somebody else with all other factors being the same that had new OEM shocks, and you drove both LS's back to back, you would probably notice the difference.

you are right not to trust that... there is a huge difference between how good lowering springs feel versus just cut down OEM springs. the lowering spring need to be a stiffer since it allows less travel for the shock, a cut spring is going to bottom out a lot more/easier
 
Loud, you may be right but what I guess I'm trying to say is I didn't notice any towncar like feel (my dad has a towncar) when switching to KYB like many others have reported when switching to diff aftermarket shocks. Since OEM is no longer available (sport at least) the KYB is as close as it's probably going to come without dropping $1,200.

Oh, also the same day I put the KYB on the rear I put brand new OEMs on the front and it's not like the front is stiff and the rear bounces, it's the same.
 
I wish I could find the specs on the stockers....then I could at least call up some shock makers and find the closest one

My new fronts should be in in the next day or two...They will have to do atm until I make a decision on what to do.
 
It turns out the shocks for the 1st gen special suspension are readily available and others have used them with success.

Ok..ive heard these different types of suspension referred to with different names. I know the best way would be to compare part #. Anyway, this "special" suspension, is that referring to the euro style? I know theres 3 different types, and i believe my 01 v6 manual has the euro style, which i thought ive also seen referred to as the special. Could anyone clear this up for me? I know ill be needing them in the not too distant future

There is an EXCELLENT chance your car does NOT have the Euro shocks; UNLESS the previous owner installed them. They were NEVER installed from the factory on any LS. As far as I can tell, "special" is the sport suspension.
 
I assume there's a part number stamped somewhere on the shock? As well as my LS handles, I feel like it could do better with bumps. It seems too bouncy. It's a sport, but it wasn't serviced by the best shop previously and I wouldn't be surprised if I had cheap shocks or the wrong shocks altogether. I'd hate to junk them as they only have 5000 miles/14 months on them. I didn't see anything on them (but I wasn't really looking at that time), but I have an RO that lists part number 77713447Pa on the front, 77713457Pa for the rear. The bill sheet does at least list "Special Suspe" at the top, but who knows. Google returns nothing. At least the one coil they replaced is listed as Motorcraft DG529Pa... at $108. Jeez.

Maybe I'm just expecting too rough of a ride and not enough luxury. My other car has KYB shocks and Moog cargo coils. Maybe I need something comparable to Euros...

***Ninja Edit*** These are my FRONT shocks...I will be ordering the rear ones soon.


anyways...I got my new shocks and top hardware...Figured I'd throw some pics up here for future surfers. I'll take pics of the install as well tomorrow.

1. Shock Tops. SENSEN Part # M73110 Shocks and Struts 20.79 each from RockAuto. Im a cheap bastard so I went with the cheapest after I verified it came with the rubber part and the bearing. Also new nuts.

2. Front Shocks. Appears to be very few of these left....Notice it came with the rubber cushion part and the top nut. Also notice the Green label.

Im a little ticked off at myself.

I didn't notice that these shocks are available on rockauto...listed under 06 only. for only 85 bucks a piece. I paid about 120.

I only figured it out because I typed in the 6w4z-18124-D number into google.....Frustrating...but maybe this will help save another a few bucks. (Im still standing by that dealer treating me pretty well)

The 6w43-18045-da number found on the shock label only returned hits back to this forum. Wanted to list it here again for future surfers looking for info. Allows ppl to either sort more crap out or be more confused..haha
