Remote Start for LS?

Jet, Read my post above. The directed electronics website list the bypass module part # 1100F does not require a spare key when using it with any remote start system. They go for around $50. I ordered one tonight but I won't be able to install it after the 25th. I went with a remote start from asianwolf
 
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought if you have a manual that Remote Starts will not work on them. You must have an automatic for a remote start kit to work..
 
you "can" but many shops won't due to the liability. remember if you leave it in gear and hit that start button anything in front of you is in deep crap.

That's my understanding. It would have to override the clutch interlock, which would present a tremendous amount of liability for any manufacturer.
 
yeah it is a liability for a shop to do it but you can read online how to bypass the clutch. best thing to do is to look under the dash and see how the clutch engages (what makes contact with what) and figure out how you can have it always making contact. just remember to leave your ebrake on and your car in neutral. and make sure your ebrakes holds very well. i had a buddy of mine drive my car one day (89 5.0) and left it in gear and luckily he had the ebrake on and it just jumped a few times then quit trying to start.

Nick's right, it can't be done.

Maybe you can get JES_LS to swap your manual tranz for an automatic, and then install the remote start! :D

Actually, he's wrong and it CAN be done. It's just dangerous, but easy to do.
 
Key word: DANGEROUS!!! This is an idiotic idea. Why would you bypass the clutch? Really? Did everyone not read what Navi wrote? Is having a remote start THAT important???

nick, right it is dangerous. I mentioned that early if you read the thread. My point is Todd (and maybe you, don't feel like rereading) said it "CAN'T" be done. That's incorrect.

Actually, he said it had to be a slushbox for a Remote Start KIT to work. AFAIK, that is true--nobody makes a remote start kit for a manual transmission-equipped car.

But yes, you can make a remote start work on a manual transmission; it's just that nobody makes a kit for it (again, AFAIK).
 
I've been asking around via different sources and I've had two very respectable people come back to me w/ this answer.. So if the following is correct, then I stand corrected.

You NEED to get a MANUAL TRANS REMOTE START. I have made the mistake of installing auto trans remote start on an employee's vehicle they SWEAR they never leave in gear and when the thing took off across the street and took out a fence and neighbor's central air conditioning, guess who paid for it.... the company I worked for...not me of course. But anyway, that was best case scenario, what if it had hit a woman and baby in a stroller. Don't take the chance. Scytek and Ultrastart both make manual trans units that work VERY well. I have a Honda Accord with one on it and it works very well

So back to the original topic sort of, I just got my remote start installed.,...works great. And the key is to leave the seats on AUTO mode. Too bad it's 60 degrees here now. I'm all set w/my noisy snow tires and my remote start and winter has decided to skip columbus ohio lol
 
My wife had an remote starter installed in her Honda Civic. It is manual 5spd. If it is left in gear, the remote starter will not start the car.
 
Nick, I can make a remote start for an AT work on a MT very easily by simply closing the clutch interlock. Then it's up to the owner to ensure it's never left in gear when parked. But that is the wrong way to do it...and like said..it's dangerous. If you do that, your car's ECM thinks the clutch is depressed at all times and makes things goofy. You really screw the ECM's mind!! (disclaimer: there are some vehicles that use two switches on the clutch...one for starting and one for the ECM)

CobraLS's wife's car is the proper way to do it. If your tranny has a switch that indicates neutral (many of the newer ones do because the ECM needs this info) then you're in business. You simply use a relay in parallel with the clutch interlock circuit. Use the neutral indicator to activate the relay. Your remote start powers the circuit, reads the car is in neutral...which closes the clutch interlock relay, and the car starts. If it's not in neutral, the clutch interlock circuit is left open and it won't start.
