Hi, new to boards...does anyone know, in step by step detail how to remove rear shocks on these cars ? . I expected to see a top shock nut & when i peeled back the carpet theres some cylinder thing on the top...any help is appreciated as i dont feel like spending $ 1000+ at a mechanic & the car fishtails & rides like crap...i knwo bags are good my mechanic tested but sd shocks cost $ 300 a piece + $ 300 labor for both...i can get monroe # 40014 on amazon for like $ 215, do labor myself if i could figure how to remove at the top...bottom i checked regular nut...thanks

Those cylinder things you are talking about are actually the nuts that hold the upper shock to flange they are threaded. They are wieghts to deaden shock noise. Earlier continentals did not have those weights like mine. I had a clunk in my rear end forever until I found the TSB that had me install those wieghts, then my clunk was gone. Remove lower shock bolt first, DO NOT allow suspension to completly lower when you do this or you will damage air bags. Then remove to upper bolts you see in the wheel well, you should be able to lower the whole thing out.

thanks for the help i did this weekend, got the whole thing out, but now i cant get that mount off ! how do i do it or am i better off buying a new one ? if so where ? dealer ?what do i ask for ?

Does your shock upper end have the big black wieght on the end? If so that is the part that unscrews off the shock shaft. Then you will be able to change mount.

thanks again 4 all your help Randy, since all youve told me is the only reason i'm even THINKING of doing the job (& saving myself prob $ 500), yeah those weights are a PITA, seem to be rusted on ,any idea what size wrench i need ? i only have up to 21 MM too small...thanks
