This is a simple question however I want to be sure before I make an attempt. I have searched the boards with out finding the answer. I will be changing the stock mirror on my 2005 LS to an auto dimming compass mirror. Do not wish to break anything so what steps to take in removing the stock mirror off its mount? Wouldn't it be great if all problems where this easy?

I believe this car uses the mirror mount that wedges in place. After you remove all the peripheral junk in the road, I take a small screwdriver I've bent and push it in against the tang. Then I tap the mirror up with a soft hammer. Use common sense and you won't break anything. If someone knows a better way (and I'm sure there is one) please let us know! The technique I'm using has worked on everything I've tried it on though.

joebman- does the auto dim mirror fit in the stock mount?- I was thinking about doing this on a v6 base but the lincoln service rep told me it couldn't be done. Let me know - thks.

yes it can be done. You have to buy the mirror to fit your particular mounting style. I have done it.

Thats what I thought- I just checked the Gentex site, they have pretty good install instructions posted there. thks.
