I ran across a deal tonight on a Kicker ZX1000.1 Class D mono block amp and a 12" Kicker L7 in a ported Kicker enclosure. I'm going to take out the three 10's and that huge box and get my trunk back. This new box will pound just as hard or harder than what I have now and won't be taking up as much room. I can put an amp on each side, mounted flat down and have plenty of room left.

Anyway, this is what I went and bought tonight. It's unreal loud but only if you set it to be what it can be.

All I have right now are the pics of what I bought but after the install tomorrow, I'll take more then.

imho, i would've kept the jl's and mounted your existing amps on the backseat

Can't mount my amps on the back seat because they hold too much heat. They have to be mounted flat. Even if I would have mounted them vertical on the back seat, they still hold heat because of the angle and with that JL box, there is no air coming back there for them at all. I would have to install fans and that's just something else to add to the drain on the alternator.

98,

No, it's not too tall. It sets right in there and will slide back and it's even slanted on the back side to match the back X brace. No room for play on the top but it does fit.

gotcha..What would happen if you aimed the port upwords through a hole in the rear deck..

The JL box won't fit under the rear deck facing upward. I did at one time mount my amps to the back of the seat lol. That lasted for about 30 min and the amps were shutting off. As long as they lay flat, I never have one shut off problem out of them. The 4 channel amp I have on there is also coming out. Doing away with all the old school stuff. The oldest things I will have in there will be the amp I bought tonight and the 4 channel I'm going to replace it with to match what I bought (as far as looks go). The sub also is 08 but bought in 09 along with the sub amp. Both were bought in 09 and used for around 3 months and then removed from a Mercedes. The boy then put everything up on top of a table in the corner of the garage. This kid looked like he was maybe 18 and he had money out the anus.

Nice garage with two Corvettes inside. His newest one that replaced the V-8 Mercedes is bad ass. Then he has a nice GMC 4 wheel drive outside that I could almost drive under. The inside of the house was unreal. LED TV's, even in the kitchen in about a $350K house. I don't know if he inherited his money but he ain't hurting. He let me have that amp and sub / box for $240 and then he said, "here, since you had a problem finding it and I called you late, here's $20 back" lol. So really I got it all for $220. His black Vette was immaculate. I have never seen another one like it. I wished I had taken a pic of it when I was in the garage. He had a red one too but I didn't get a good look at that one. It was nice too. Maybe mom and dad work 2nd shift, idk.

That is a killer deal. I really dont like the L5 or L7 subs but the L7 can get loud. Should save you a crap ton of amprage draw though with that new amp. Running a class D versus a class AB is a very large power savings.

I too am not crazy about the L5's or L7's but the deal he was offering with the amp too, I just couldn't pass it up. I have heard a L5 before in a trunk with a lower wattage amp than I have and it was amazing what that thing could do...... so, I'm assuming with a L7 and 1000.1 amp and like you said, less power draw and a 2 ohm load, it should be plenty enough for me.

Remember when I bought the new JL's for the box? I got all 4 ohm and ended up having to wire them up into a 6 ohm load on the AB two channel amp. I think once it's done, I'll be happy and have the majority of my trunk back again. I'll put the sub amp flat down on one side and the 4 channel flat down on the other side of the box. Everything should be way up in there much further now. That L7, box and all weighs as much as the box with the three 10's in it. I thought I was picking up lead off of the table in the garage. All I had to do was wipe off a little dust. He had everything covered with a towel.

I had that same setup twice Terry! lol Or Double that setup! Two L7's and two zr1000.1's! That is what I had in my 97 cadillac deville right before I went with the mojo 15's and the mojo amps! The Mojo's will not be going into the Mark though! Toooooo big! What are you going to do with the JL's? I would like to get them off of you if there is any chance you could work with me on some payments or something! Let me know asap, I drove the car home tonight!:) I have to get a waterpump in the morning though!!!!

Drop me a PM, about what you are asking for your old setup. I'll be in town for a few more weeks and if I don't take them I might be able to find someone on the Arsenal who will take them. You know us EOD guys, more money than sense. ;)

If I decide to sell, I'll let one of you know. Right now I want to keep that stuff. The amps might be sold but the subs and box I'll most likely be keeping. The 10's are new but I'm kinda attached to that box lol. There is a story behind that box when I got it. Hate to let it go.

I am definitely getting another 4 channel amp and the only reason why is so it matches the 1000.1 that I just got. I don't like different looking amps. I currently have 4 Kicker Impulse amps. 352xi, 354xi, 654xi, 1252xi and a 2252xi but that one keeps blowing the two 40amp fuses. The 1252xi runs all three of those 10's like it ain't nothing. Originally it's the amp that came with the box when I got it.

nice score, i love my L7's (15" and a KX1200.1) this is the 3rd lincoln i have had the pair in (do you know how hard it is to put two 15' subs in a mark trunk that is only 13 1/2" tall) you will probably lose a little sound quality and some of the higher bass, but you really cant beat the seriously low beat down that L7 will produce

as in two of the subs wired in series (two 4's in series = 8 ohm) and then the series pair and the third wired in parallel (8 and a 4 in parallel = 6 ohms)

correct?

Correct. I had to do it like that because the 2252xi was a 2 channel amp and is only capable of running down to a 2 ohm load. That was why I couldn't run all three in parallel. If I had bought three 8 ohm, I could have wired it parallel to 2 ohm or three 12 ohm could have been wired parallel at 4 ohm. I messed up and bought three 4 ohm but it still sounds good like it is. Honestly, I can't tell the difference in any power loss with it being wired at 6 ohm.

Now I have the L7 in there and dayum. Anyone with two L7's in your car, I feel sorry for your ears. That one 12 is doing as much or more than all three of those 10's. Now that I'm running a mono block amp with true wattage, instead of a two channel bridged and pushing what ever it was at a 6 ohm load.

I'll just say, for $220, I did not go wrong and gained a little more trunk space, has better sound and unless someone removes the spare tire cover and spare tire, it can't be stolen. I had to take all of that out to get it down deep enough so it could slide straight back. I was then able to put the tire back in and then the cover. I'll get a pic of it inna lil bit. It's a temp setup for now until I get back from Florida. I'm leaving out tomorrow night and no one would ship a matching 4 channel amp unless I paid out the ass for shipping. I'll wait till I get back to get it like I want it.

That Kicker isn't too tall? Looks like it might be, but I'm not seeing it in person.

You almost nailed it lol. When I say there is no room for play on top, there is no room. I don't even think I could blow air up above that thing. It JUST FITS. I measured it before I got it and knew that it would go but had no clue I was gonna have to take out the spare tire to get it low enough to slide back straight. Not possible for it to go in at any angle what so ever. It might look like it but it can not be done.

I don't see how you got 2 of those in your trunk. I tried every way possible just to get the 12 in and ended up with rubber arms by the time I was done trying. Took out the spare, dropped the box down deep enough, slid it straight back and then put the tire and cover back in. It was hell and I just thought those three 10's were hard to get in.

you wouldve pee'd yourself watching me try to get my box in my trunk, absolutly impossible going thru the trunk lid, which i tried at for over an hour..rofl, then i cut the car apart..and it fit

I thought I was gonna have to do one of your cuts to get that one in but the Lincoln engineers came through and made the tub deep enough for this one to go without any cutting.

All I have right now is a phone pic that I bluetoothed to the laptop. I gotta drive down the road and fix my mothers internet so she'll shut up. When I get over there, she'll be walking the hallway and yawning like it's bedtime. Annoys me.

It sounds damn good and very tight for a 12. I can tell it hasn't been abused and worn out. It has the high pitched bass and of course the low and real low bass notes. I have to keep the sub volume at +1 or lower. If I went to a +3 or +5, it would be too much. I am more than happy with the purchase. I'll order the other amp next week when I get back. I don't like mismatching amps. Both are kicker but the 654xi has a dB rating in the 80's where the Kicker ZX 650.4 is 10 years newer and has a 95 dB rating.

120 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms
170 watts RMS x 4 at 2 ohms
325 watts RMS x 2 in bridged mode (4-ohm stable in bridged mode)
Variable high- and low-pass filters (50-200 Hz, 12 dB per octave)
Variable bass boost (0-18 dB at 40 Hz)
Top-mounted controls
Speaker- and preamp-level inputs
Fuse rating: 40A x 2
4-gauge power and ground leads and an 80-amp fuse recommended
Dimensions (WxHxD): 20" x 2-1/8" x 9-9/16"

It will look just like the 1000.1 with the red lines on the top. Close to the same length, height and width.

The 1000.1 they were rated @ 1000 watts but bench tested by Kicker and actually produced around 1134+ watts RMS and I can tell.

glad it sounds good, you just missing the wow factor when you open your trunk

You mean the "Blue Light Effect"?

What you see right now is temporary until I get back from Florida next week. I just didn't want to go down there with no sounds, which I had but then that deal popped up in my face on CL and I had to go get it. It's going to get the blue lights lol. I think the JL's look better in there honestly but that 12 really does put out a punch.

I need to go find another spare tire cover. Anyone have one that's clean?

I don't see how you got 2 of those in your trunk.

the box was custom built and was in two pieces that had to be assembled inside the trunk, it was two different heights, the first was just tall enough to fit under the rear shelf after i removed that tray which required me to remove the factory amp (which was replaced be two 2ch amps) and relocating the compass module, and then the front had to come out past the lip of the edge of the trunk and then come up for a inch or two to give enough room for the 15" tall speakers to fit, it was awesome because it couldn't be stolen and taken out(trust me, somebody tried when they stole my flip out HU) , and i used security torx bolts to hold the speakers in to the box. it was a pain in the ass, but damn it was loud, there where certain songs that would just pop the trunk open every time, i eventually had to install hood pins to keep it closed while driving down the road (you can only hop out of the car so many times at red lights before you just get fed up with it)
