Does anyone have a recommendation on replacing my current, factory in dash radio/CD with a newer, SIRIUS enabled unit?

Thanks!!

I got a Kenwood excelon with free sirius tuner as long as I paid for the antenna($40) from Crutchfields for about $249 + subscription but you do that through sirius whether you want monthly or annually. They also give you a free wiring harness, adapter for your dash and easy instructions for whatever car you're putting the radio in. It took me about 2 hours to hook it all up. Or you might try sound domain they have pretty good deals also. I haven't listened to the regular radio since. Too bad, I had a clarion system with blaupunkt component speakers for the front and sony xplode 4 ways for the back with a sirius tuner I was selling on the parts forum. No one was interested so I gave it away. Everything would've fit in the mark.

Sirius blows, I have had it for a year for free and I kept loosing signal and they replay allot of songs, you have to flip stations to get any verity out of it. IM switch to xm, I suggest the same, plus they have traffic and weather for my area

Did you just add this to your factory in dash unit? Or did you pull the factory unit and install the crutchfield?

I have Sirius now with a sportster unit....I love it, and use it in the house as well....just looking to have a nice in dash unit in the Mark VIII

This is the headunit I have in the 94. I LOVE the glidetouch function on it. and you can use either XM, or sirruis. Just buy the adapter box.

Sirius rocks!!! I absolutely love my Sirius. I am using this unit

I also took out the factory changer out and added a clarion cd changer as well:

I've found that the factory amp pushes this radio quite well. Just what I need.

It's a complete radio swap. With the 94 it's ALOT easier due to the single DIN opening that the factory uses. I am using XM's service and LOVE it. In the 95 I have my Ipod hooked up to my aux input on the headunit, my XM radio, plus all of my cd's, and regular AM/FM radio.

I agree with the sirrus (sp) service thing. I have had both, and XM is the way to go.

EDIT.......I did'nt buy it through Crutchfield either.....I just used thier site to show the stats on it.

i dont know where you guys are losing signal.. i have lost signal with my sirius only a couple times.. both of them when i drove into a covered parking ramp...which is expected, because you lose the line of sight to the satellite..
i wont get XM, i dont want to pay for commercials.. i love my sirius...i agree they play the same songs more than they should, but its a radio station they play what "people" want to hear.. thats how they keep people listening.. thats how radio works.. there are plenty of offbeat channels if your looking for something a little more outside of mainstream...and of course the Comedy channels...i love those..

thre are no commercials on the music channels - only on the talk channels. and there are twice as many music channels as talk channels.

Most of the newer Kenwood and Pioneer receivers will work with both Sirius and XM. In addition to the deck, you will need to purchase a module and an antennae. The only way to buy a receiver is to go to a local retailer and find the unit you want. THEN... log on to Yahoo.com and click on Shopping. Enter the make and model # of the receiver you want to buy and you will see from 5 to 25 outlets selling your radio. Prices and vendor ratings will be listed. Start with the cheapest one and work your way up until you find a vendor with a four or five star rating. I always like to visit their site to see if they have a physical address and a phone number to contact them. I call and ask if they can deliver the radio at the quoted price. If so, I place an order. I do this with any major purchase. Sometimes there is not much of a difference, but most of the time, I save hundreds of dollars. I have never seen nor heard XM, but how anyone can knock Sirius is beyond me. I travel over 120,000 miles a year, all over New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Conneticut etc. and I rarely lose signal. Plus, Sirius has the programming. Nascar, NCAA, NFL, NHL ETC. XM has MLB. You can hear ANYTHING you want to hear from every kind of music imaginable, to Talk Left, Talk Right, Traffic for a dozen localities, Uncensored comedy, clean comedy, radio classics...I could go on and on. Right now, Sirius has much less advertising than XM but I am certain that before long, ads will multiplying on both services. Sooner, rather than later, they will probably merge and this whole paragraph will be a waste of time. GET SERIOUS!!!

sirius doesn't have nascar until next year ;) And I think they may merge, because sirius can't muster the same number of subscribers as xm. that is art of the reason i went with xm - stronger economic base.

You are right about the subscriber base. In the end, merge or not, there will be plenty of subscribers for both. Look at all the cable and satellite tv services that are flourishing now. Compared to terrestrial radio, I think anyone would be more than satisfied with either service. I recommend Sirius because it is the one I am familiar with. (and I bought some stock!!!)

Whoa, folks! I enjoy the Siruis vs XM debate, but my original question was more about how to replace my stock in-dash radio/cd player with another unit that will fill into the same space. I have a Sportster unit with Sirius that is temporarily setting on my dash, but I'd like to replace the entire dash unit with a new one...maybe with ALL the bells and whistles...receiver, CD, GPS, Bluetooth, Siruis...hell, why not try for the moon!

Any thoughts about this kind of replacement unit??

Thanks!!!
